What a journey.
I would say most places I've experienced are fully self-served. New Jersey is total full served, from what I know.
We have/had one place, SWIFTY, that would pump gas for you. I've not seen one in a while.

cheap living, plenty of jobs. Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

(but you pump your own gas)

Rent is $466/month. It's not a bad town, imo. Typical midwest slightly medium town.

On another note, tony, the ONLY news I can recall coming out of Oregon has been this pump your own gas news. LOL

ATT Fiber in my neighborhood. Internet 1000!

I user a business firwall at my house and the throughput is "only" 650 megabits, so I may have to upgrade that at some point. I didn't have bad internet, I am on the 75 Megabit plan for ATT currently. But the fiber price, even after the 12 month promotional price goes down is actually $5 cheaper. It was a no brainer. I am not sure how widely it is available in the Bay area, but my neighborhood is usually not among the first to get upgrades like this so it was a surprise.

Meanwhile, I've just paid extra to "upgrade" to the 50Mbps plan because the speeds I was getting on the 25Mbps plan were crap. I have a funny feeling I've paid for nothing...

Hm, I'm on Somic Fusion Broadband - X2 and that's $70/mo (but turns out to $90/mo with taxes and hardware rental). Having trouble seeing what the speeds are, but bet it's less than fiber (seems Sonic's gigabit fiber isn't available at my address yet). Though there's no bandwidth nor data caps and I don't need a firewall. Do you think I'd see better service by moving to AT&T, or waiting for Sonic's fiber?

I have always liked sonic and didn't even think to ask about their rates. AT&T may not be price competitive because the prices i quote are before tax and usually only available with a tv bundle. The service i have had has been reliable but I do use an enterprise firewall.

Okay, thanks -- yeah, Sonic is a good company, and has been very vocal about net neutrality, but their web site makes it hard to evaluate speed tiers. (And, weirdly, it also says the service I have isn't available at my address.)

comcast just bumped my speed to 100(more like 112) mbps. $55/mo
1000 is $140
2000 is $300
they have 3000 mbps at some stupid price, I think.

If you can get AT&T Fiber it would be worth switching from Sonic, but if it is just Sonic -> AT&T Uverse both based on copper wire there will be no difference.

That's pretty crazy. Do they give you a 10 gigabit router for your home?

Yikes! My house is wired with cat 6. Going to run out of bandwidth soon!

We have 1GB down via FiOS. It’s good and rock solid.
