Great read of some time spent talking to Bob Lutz and others from GM ... no wonder they suck so much.

Also, they unveiled this at NY Auto Show:

I mean really.

I have gotten into plenty of arguments with MKaresh (TTAC's 'owner') on various websites. Such a loser, imo. Almost worthy of GEG

Farago owns TTAC. Karesh has his own web site doing auto reliability data.

I think TTAC has a bad wrap. People say they hate the US automakers, but I think they are really looking for accountability from the people running the company and a dose of reality for the people working for the company. I like how they refuse to allow things like CAFE, the market downturn, etc, used as excuses for profits. As gas prices go up, the demand for smaller cars goes up. We put up the Chevy Aveo (admittedly a Daewoo import) and place it against the Fit, Yaris, and Versa? We put the Focus and Cobalt against the Corolla and Civic? The US automakers seem to want to fix all of their problems by getting people to buy smaller SUVs, but still have no answer to the Prius.

Admittedly, Toyota makes a ton of money selling a lot of very large vehicles, and I would never consider them a green company, and Honda and Nissan try and sell us SUVs as well, but if trucks were outlawed tomorrow, which company would you bet on? GM or Toyota? Honda or Ford? Hell, even Chrysler or Hyundai? The automakers have to learn how to make profits with smaller market share, something I am not convinced they are ready for. I don't think we are going to be headed for a British Leyland group ending, but things are going to change.

BTW: the Patriot is looking like it will make the cut for cars to go test drive. It's a nice package.

I like the base patriot because at $15,000 it's a bargain. It's not the fanciest/plushest, but I can attest to you that in deep snow (with 4x4) it's really good.

Sorry, about TTAC, but I was under the impression FROM MKARESH that he was also doing TTACs. I dislike(d) him to a degree that I did not want to give TTAC any 'hits'. Hmm, odd that he pumped TTACs so much himself.

Karesh is part of the site, but he didn't start it.

The Patriot is one of a half-dozen cars or so that I would consider buying right now if I were in the market.

Keep us informed Rino!

And from what I hear, the new owners are on a whirlwind updating of all interiors, so next or mid-year's updates should be robust.

I sat in a G8 Saturday. The car is MUCH more stunning in person. $29k for it is way too low. They will have to up the price. It's WORTHY.

What a journey.

I like everything about it except for the hood. If they could lose the "scoops" I'd love it.

okay, when the GTO came out, which is similar in appearance, the plain hood was bashed, so they made the scooped hood more available if not standard IIRC.

I would still like one of those.

But, for this car and its positioning in the market, I agree. It's the single most styling element that I would lose, too.

The car is SO worth more than they are asking.

What a journey.

Exactly. This car has such clean lines. Aside from the hood, its appearance rivals many premium badges.

have you seen it in person?

I thought it was OKAY in photos. In person it looks good. I saw a black on black. I loved the way they 'hid' the handbrake in the center console.

The second styling part that I have slight issues with, is the standard pontiac grille. It's okay. I would have loved to see some other styling theme on the nose. But, in general, not bad. NO SPARE TIRE... just a repair kit and On*Star. 19" summer-only tires on the one I sat in. No Nav system, either. In that one, at least.

What a journey.

I shall ... no timeline on purchase. The old jeep is well OLD! but still kicking over just fine. I want to be prepared this year. I know it's not before summer.

The G8 looks like a f* hot rod. Don't like the hood either but at least they kept all the usual Pontiac cowling rubbish off the body. 29!~ yowza ... but I'm a cheapskate.
Wonder how this will fare with the competition.

Do you like the Commodore version Bill? It has the plain hood and a different grille:

I'm not sure what style I'd like up front. Maybe an Audi treatment. The Comm looks more mustang/buick-ish. I dunno, I'm just on the fence about it.

okay. I had a dream last night they raised the msrp on the G8 by $6,000.

How sad is THAT? I'm dreaming of car prices.
