Polished up my grammar a bit...

Since there was no real thread for useless but nonetheless
interesting links I thought I'd create one.

We are seeing an uptick on businesses calling us to automate jobs done by admin staff that currently are paid min wage.

Los Angeles, LA County and several other cities have also passed similar laws.

I'd be most curious of how these/such work or jobs could be automated. Cheaper.
But the common argument one hears is "Why stop at $xx per hour?" If $15 is fine, why not $20, and so on and so forth.
What is the argument to push back agains that logic?

Also >> JOBS >>> who cares?
I hear that robots will take all the jobs away.

What is my concern if robots can plant all the food, pave all the roads, drive me to and fro, all while I live at the beach.

NO JOBS = DREAM WORLD !!! (Not West World - ala HBO's newest forthcoming series... By the way the ORIGINAL was my favorite movie when I was young. Especially Peter Fonda's flying the bird at the end! LOL )

Come pamper me, ROBOT OVERLORDS! literally, when I become incontinent... please PUT PAMPERS ON ME!

Well for companies with more than 50 employees the wage + ACA + overtime rules (even salaried under $47,476 are now eligible for overtime) have hit some pretty hard. If it costs 50K to automate something now that you had 1+ full time employee employee doing in one year you can make it up now. A few examples. Schools that used to do paper based registration for summer school/other programs are now going fully electronic, typically saving at least 1-2 FTE. So now 3000 students registrations can be handled by 1 vs a team person. Admittedly low hanging fruit but when we asked why now mentioned the extra costs of the changes. Another one is company that used to have 3 full time person people managing vendor rate cards in Excel, moved to a DB + vendor portal making the vendors come enter the data (savings again 2 FTEs).

It matters when significant political entities / philosophies (Republicans, libertarians) believe people without high paying jobs are lazy / worthless, and shouldn’t be supported (taxes are theft! I built this company, not you!) by those who invent / build / own the robots.

I got that program from a cow-orker when I was an intern for the Army. It's easy to (rightly) look at it as degrading smut, but it was yet another area where the Mac's interactivity was light-years ahead (ahem) of anything else at the time. I probably still have it on a floppy (ahem) somewhere. Assuming that the disk hasn't degraded (ahem) .

Is that where I make the obligatory joke about as well as being floppy, the disk was only 3.5 inches?
