For all your work woes.

porruka, sent a PM. basically mention that I was talking about it and you thought it was a good fit. If applying for the engineer position, mention things that set you apart (you made an iOS app, etc). If applying for the manager position, they are looking more for organizational fit than technical skills. Not interested so much in how you managed a huge team, etc, but more your management style.

The cat has your pipe.
PM received and responded. As many here can attest, my style is "chaotic", with an even split between "good" and "evil".

This might be up some people's wheelhouse (to mix metaphors). It's a great organization, very sane and nimble.

Just spent 4 days in Bellevue, WA. I simply don't have the energy required to adequately bitch about everything that was wrong.

By the way, do any of you have any contacts in the Seattle area who have AWS experience and would like a job or even just a short-term contract?

DPBD...

Let me amend my previous query... I need to find someone with AWS and Linux experience who is either in the Seattle area or willing to travel to Seattle (or even relocate).

The need is quite urgent.

What AWS experience is necessary?

I know a few different UNIX/Linux admins who know AWS from the webdev side.

Hey johnnyk, do you know Suejin at GoPro? Or is that just a "we share groups online" thing?

They don't need to be AWS experts. This is for a Level 2 infrastructure support role. They basically need to know how to monitor instances, create new instances, troubleshoot issues with Linux/Apache and deploy patches.

I didn't know she was at GoPro now, but yeah, Suejin's a friend. You know her?

No, but I a call with an outsourced screening company (Sourcery) and they said she might be the next step if the company wanted to go talk more. Might finally get to propose my "if your bike registers a sudden stop, the camera starts recording and uploads emergency footage to relevant parties" project!

CS, any idea about the compensation? Feel free to take it to PM if you want.

I have no idea what compensation would be like since there's a contract office that handles all of that stuff.

Had a weird meeting with a new co-worker this week. It started with with a statement along the lines of "now I don't want you to think that I'm getting rid of your job but..." and then proceeded to outline how a pile of things I'd been working on, as well as some other things that were meant to be my responsibility, were now going to be done by someone else.

Hard not to view that as at least a "demotion"...

What a journey.
Today starts my second "SCORE" with my current employer. [20 years]
Ended my first score in the executive office/s with our top on-site executive. Unrelated to ME or my service years… but interesting way to end it.
Let's see how this first day of my 21st year turns out.

Or maybe you want it to record a rolling 15 seconds and then upload that + ongoing once you get a sudden stop event, until you sense something approximating biking again.

Yeah! Something like that. Of course it'd take a lot of fiddling, iterating, testing, to see what works best and what the default situation should be.

So, I'm back in Seattle (err, Bellevue) and I get the phone call this morning saying that I got the job I had been interviewing for back in MN. I start two weeks from tomorrow. Now I have to resign from ACN and I don't think the PM here is going to take it well since they're already understaffed.

The new job is at St. Jude Medical (not to be confused with St. Jude Children's Hospital which is a completely unrelated organization).

We have done St. Jude Medical, interesting company.

This just in: urgent need for Android mobile dev.

"Timing is now, we had an issue with current developer that could not be fixed. We are supposed to launch asap. Pay is negotiable. It is a short-term emergency job, we get that. 2 weeks of crunch time means lots of full-time work for that time.

We have a 3/4 built android game that needs to be taken to the finish line. Most of the cleint side work has been done, issue is communication between client and server, fixing bugs, finishing up some work on in-app purchases and payments..."

Anyone?
