If you happen to see ads for cool gadgets from a company called "Gearbest" I advise you to ignore them.

It looks like they are spamming review sites with fake positive reviews in order to try and drown out the large numbers of pissed off customers who never receive what they order (including me).

One of those review sites, TrustPilot, has put the following banner at the top of their page for Gearbest:

This is a notification to inform you that our proprietary software has discovered a large number of fake reviews on this domain. Consequently, we have investigated all reviews connected to this domain and have removed several hundreds of reviews from the domain. Manipulation of reviews is a great threat to both consumers and businesses. We will continue to fight attempts to manipulate reviews to safeguard the integrity of Trustpilot, and we will share information about such severe and coordinated attempts with our users. Please refer to our blog post to read more about our latest initiatives to combat fake reviews.

PissedConsumer has many good examples of what Gearbest customers have been facing, too.

Anyone have an older iMac they want to sell me? Looking for something sub-$500 that'll run 10.11. Or a laptop, but want bang-for-buck and upgradability more than portability.

Re: fake reviews and spamware in general - anyone fell foul of MacKeeper?

My mother ended up buying it because of all the "helpful" ads telling her she needed it and we suspect it has fouled up her MBP.

What a journey.
Our cell provider, PTEL, is going out of business. I am taking this opportunity and perhaps anticipating some small raise, to actually perhaps possibly get MY FIRST DATA PLAN ...
snicker... I sound like such a backwards person...

But... so.... ok....cricketwireless. 5 phones for $100/month. On AT&T (subsidiary). And $199 iPhone 5s if one so desires. Or even cheaper other phones. No contract. No overages. No additional fees. $100 total per month that's IT!..

And of course you can bring your own GSM devices.

Still likely to double our current outlay. But, the addition of 21st century DATA ... I might just do it. T-mobile also has $110 plan, too. Not bad. But I am on t-mobiles network and it's not so great.

Skype / Lync / conference callers... I live on Skype many days. Headsets are getting tiring. These look perfect.

$44 for good speakerphone. ON SALE NOW AT STAPLES.

$79 for the best (?) one?
Listen to audio calls or streaming audio from the speaker or plug in a headset for privacy.

I've been using that Jabra for a few years now. It's amazing.

Oh snap. See what happens when I don't check in here? Arrgh. So T-Mobile/P-Tel nuked our daughter's cell phone… No wonder it didn't work.

So the options are…

1. Get her a new phone and transition her to our family plan on Verizon where it'd be $20 a month (right?)
2. Keep on T-Mobile AT&T at payasyougo rates which seem to be around $40 a month.

Anybody have other options?

We moved to Cricket Wireless, and had issues in the transition. painful.
But the service, being AT&T owned, is fine.

While looking, I found Whistleout to be a good source of information. https://www.whistleout.com/CellPhones

prepaid, there is always cellguru. http://www.cellguru.net/prepaid_compare.htm

If anyone is in the market for an Android phone with a decent camera and awesome battery life, B&H has the Sony Xperia Z3 unlocked for $249 today (normally $449). Deal ends in 9 hours or so. I'd post a link but I want to make sure people use the Spork referral so just type "Xperia Z3" into the B&H search box below.

$200 OFF iPad Pro 128GB

How are they doing this?

My prior phone, iPhone 4s, I bought NEW from same company (MobilePros).
So, I have first-hand experience with them.

I'm amazed it's $200 off.

Maybe for the 12.9" iPad Pro demand was more for the 256GB model and they overproduced the 128 GB model? I know that when I bought one, the ability to double the storage for $150 more was a no-brainer.

I ditched my Windows phone for a Sony Xperia Z3 last week. Today my wife switched to Android as well. She now has an LG G4. Target has them for $360 and you get a $200 Target gift card.

I'm selling my wife's barely-used 13-inch MacBook (2010). I put it on eBay at $299 and opened it up to Best Offer as well. One guy has offered $230 for it. I'm thinking about accepting that offer unless something better comes in over the next couple of hours. Does that sound reasonable to you guys? Here's the link:
