Off to Chiang Mai, Thailand very early tomorrow morning for my brother's wedding this weekend. He's lived in Thailand for about four years. I've had my immunizations, renewed my passport, acquired about $200 worth of baht, shifted my injection schedule around so that I don't have to take the damned stuff with me, loaded my work onto a 12" iBook (more indestructible than my MBP, I hope, but in any event smaller and a bit lighter), loaded my iPod and iPhone with videos--I should be set for the 28 hours or so it'll take to get there and, I hope, for the five ensuing days and the return trip.

Ooh! Scary! Scary! Don't we look mean? You can't see me! But I can see you!
May the Force be with you.

Nobody's said it yet, so here goes:

I hope you have a happy ending...

so i found a great flight deal on kayak (thanks, JK!) and i booked to vancouver 13-15 june. no particular reason aside i need a change of scenery real bad and it seems pretty up there. i am planning on taking an architectural tour of the new main library up there. haven't gotten a place to stay yet, so recommendations for cheap and good welcome (think i'd prefer to be more downtown and am not planning on renting a car).

robert, how far is that from you?

I get all I need of vancouver by watching TV shows' backgrounds/location shots. :)

robert, how far is that from you?

Ordinarily, about 150 miles. That weekend, about 1,000- I'm in Vegas for this.

looks like more fun than i'm having -- sorry i'll miss you mid-june, but i got the tix spur of the moment.

enjoy and cheers!

As for good and cheap... you're going to Vancouver during high season (June-September) so those are fairly antagonistic concepts. ;) For one thing, it's Alaska cruise ship season, so even the 3 star downtown Vancouver hotels are showing at $100 US in Hotwire. You might try the YWCA Hotel, though, if you don't mind sharing a bath...

thanks for the tip! well, i could go a notch above "cheap" -- a friend from there recommended staying in burnaby, but i think i'd like to be more downtown.

I'm less than a week away from being in the Yucatan with my daughter for 10 days. Mayan temples, ecoparks, beaches...

Nice! Say hello to Alaghom Naom for me.

I was going to stay at that YWCA hotel until amtrak screwed my booking. You get your own bath if you're a gimp.

Not my travel channel, but the cable Travel Channel. iTunes has new season of No Reservations, but is still missing Osaka and China from season 1. If you missed Monday's episode, "Laos", it is worth watching. Also, Food Network (blech, i used to love it) is replaying "A Cook's Tour" on Tuesday's but I always forget to watch.

I've got all of season one in convenient avi files, if there is some way I can get them to you.

I love that show. I want his job.
