What a journey.
I sub/listen to STUCK IN THE 80s podcast.
They featured The 80s Cruise this year.

I found video today.
I/we have never cruised. But I could see where this would be fun. From an 80s perspective. As long as it was not always shoulder to shoulder crowded.

I would love to go next year....

Det finnes ikke dårlig vær, bare dårlige klær!
That does look like fun, although I think I might get annoyed after a day or two of it. We go on a lot of cruises but have never done a "theme" cruise before.

let us know where you are staying El Jeffe! maybe grab lunch if it works out. Just don't call it "San Fran" or "Frisco" when you are in town and you'll be fine.

Just announce yourself to be the sole heir to Emperor Norton's throne, and you should be welcomed.

I'll ping everyone. If I make it there. Moscone center.
I have no clue about anything locale related...

Seems there's a show, "The Best of New Zealand with Nick Honeyman". Kind of promotional food tourism. The first episode, the kiwi Nick meets an ex-pat Scottish fisherman and it's ACCENT NIRVANA.

Wait, who's going to be in SF when?

And: travel nerds, what's your go-to book-a-flight-cheap resource? Have a conference (xoxo) in Portland and should get there 7 September.

What a journey.
I am attending Oracle Open World. Sept. 18 - 22.
I have not booked flights. I keep going back and forth.
picture side-out-stretched arms. speak the following/below, firstly looking to one side of arms; then the next side, while going back and forth and lowering the side you are looking at, raising the side you have looked askance from.

in and out; neat and tidy
(lower arm, turn head) aka
well, I've never been to silicon valley, maybe I should extend my trip, see the place? (Raise this new/other arm as if buoyed by its newfound attention)

well, should I keep it low-cost? Two kids in college.

I could die next week and never make it back

wife is already upset we couldn't afford 25th anniversary trip/or anything

Apple Campus 2! Garage! Redwoods! etc.

feel guilty; selfish....

and so on and so forth.

skip lagged.

ddt – August 11, 2016 05:52PM Reply Quote
Well, on one of your points: do you have any local large construction sites that you can't enter? I think that's about what Apple Campus 2 looks like, and they're not scheduled to finish construction until "late 2016", let alone move in.

Redwoods are cool, though. That'd mean a bus or rental car (NO HYPERCARS) from SF. And hiking.

What do people use to find/book flights? Hipmunk apparently crashes all the time, having issues with Kayak.

If not the 800 pound Expedia....
above I noted skiplagged,

then the individual carriers of course. Particularly Southwest

i had issues with kayak when I had adblockers/scriptblockers enabled on the site. when I turned them off, it returned results I expected. Not sure if that will help you out.

ddt – August 12, 2016 03:06PM Reply Quote
Thanks -- Hipmunk crashed every time I tried to enter a destination city (on two iOS devices), which made me sad. Kayak, I couldn't log in. Orbitz web didn't show me any but one dawn return flight; oddly, Travelocity web did, and I booked through that. Guess I missed out on any special deals, but it seemed affordable.

What a journey.
Will be in SFO in 9 days; 17th.
Man, I need to get busy planning, lodging, cars, things to do.
Any practical advice on clothing?
And I can't walk very far. Which public transportation (foreign to ME!) should I learn/take?

ddt – September 08, 2016 10:40AM Reply Quote
For transit, check out bart.gov, 511.org (not the greatest user experiences, but you can map out multi-modal). Maybe get a Clipper card -- should make it easier to get on BART, Muni, buses.

Clothing: layers! It can go from foggy and 60F in the morning to 20F higher and sunny and then quickly back to cold and foggy.

Anything like Apple or Google is a hell of a trek, in bad traffic.
