Winter is coming ... and probably so are spoilers (which is why we use the spoiler tags like this one):

I alwys thought the first two made the best explination if we were trying to apply our phsyics, etc. to Westeros.

Okay, #1 is what I was assuming (props to the author for noting that a #2 has serious issues). I... guess that could mean they still could use a solar calendar, in that the planet does make one revolution around its sun over a consistent time period... but how would they know that?

Mars apparently has two "summers" and "winters" each martian solar year due to the eccentricity of its orbit.

But yeah, wobbly axis of rotation would be the best explanation - that or the ratio of pirates to dragons on the high seas...

Hmmm... I found the pacing of tonights episode a bit slow in parts.

Some odd deviations from the books too...

Jeff Cooper – May 06, 2013 08:15PM Reply Quote
Can't speak to the books. But I agree that last night was a step down from, say, the previous two.

Yes weird deviations. But well, at least we can blame George R. R. Martin for that, can't we?

Lovely show all in all …

A friend of mine who's a big ice climber was all about "That's not how you do that! You wouldn't summit, you'd DIE!"

She also found the dragons less than true-to-life.

Good thing we have experts in the fold... heh.

AFA pacing, it may seem otherwise at times, but GoT (and most of the shows of this ilk) really aren't traditional TV series, they're more akin to miniseries. Some parts of the story arcs inevitably fall into lull to prepare for the next wave. Speaking of waves,

But they're doing it Medieval style, ddt...

Diana Rigg is going to steal best supporting actor from Peter Dinklage this year though, I think.

There's a lot to cram into the next four episodes though...

They are setting up some interesting things down the line. I liked Ros, but she was created specifically for the show so killing her off probably sets up some other stuff.

I think they will get to the red wedding, but not sure about Joffrey and Margaery's weddings.

ARL (Moderator) – May 10, 2013 01:36AM Reply Quote
Red wedding is ep 9 I think (ep 9 title is "rains of castamere").

Joffrey's wedding won't be 'til season 4 - halfway through give or take (at a guess).

bumbumbumbum BUM...

We are DEVO....

I have yet to see any characters wear cool jell-o molds on their heads.

Too many foreign accents in this show. :)

It's more of a steel fez, but probably about as close as it gets.

Sorry, I thought the comments were sufficiently vague that they give nothing away.

Kinda thought it was current knowledge that Joffrey's engaged to be married.
