It's not just for iPhone anymore. This time it's personal.

A new thread to discuss all things IOS.

iPhone, iPod and iPad...

Why in the world would anyone not cheer at the end of apps in iTunes. Thank goodness.

I updated to iOS 11.1 solely for the hedgehog emoji.

Has anyone used FireChat? Either on iOS or Android.

iOS 11.1.2 is out. Couple of iPhone X fixes.

Apple briefly, accidentally allowed iPhone users to downgrade to older versions of iOS. Including 10.2, before the slowdown feature was introduced.

This is a cool way to demo/onboard/etc your app -- anyone have insight on how this was made? I'm seeing a lot of svg, css, and React?

I am a little mystified as to why, suddenly, the media think that Apple needs to work hard to make the iPhone less "addictive." That'll be a competitive move against Samsung...

johnny k – January 17, 2018 01:11PM Reply Quote
The usual reason. They assume that Apple thinks like other companies, and Apple is insecure that if we use our phones less, we'll ... stop buying them? This was a consideration of Windows Phone I loved - more at-a-glance info without launching apps that suck me in. As someone who reflexively goes to the screen when I'm bored, I'd welcome help built into the OS. And especially filtering of notifications, though I mostly keep them off.

And the usual subject. Apple = tech/clickbait, when they should be writing about smartphones in general, and maybe reviewing the best attention-saving features from each mfg.

But batteries are CONSUME-ABLE.. and deplete... for spaghetti monster's sake, make them EASILY REPLACEABLE and be done with this. You've made your billions, let people not OVERPAY you for the simple task of changing batteries.

Is anybody here half as excited about Augmented Reality as Apple is? I don't think that I am.

I was back in mid 2010. Kind of boring now.

Apple's pitching it so hard, I feel like it's the only arrow in their quiver.

johnny k – February 01, 2018 12:34AM Reply Quote
Not here, but developers are maybe about half as excited as Apple, and that's what matters for when Apple is ready to launch dedicated hardware. Anyway, you'll be forced to adopt the AR glasses when Apple introduces a screenless iPhone that requires them.

Just tried the IKEA AR app yesterday in the office. The tech is early and obviously so, but it's genuinely more promising for things we actually do than VR. (And the Ikea app is designed around a genuinely charming chat interface, though other parts need refinement.)

yes. AR is where it will be for the near future. Not VR, imo.

Does AR include things like pokemon go?

If so, no further comment needed.
