My auctions have gone fairly well. Except to that guy in Tampa. :)

Simply the fact that you have responded to him in grammatically-correct english and he has responded in... not, makes me feel for you!

Good luck.

I have totally given up on eBay as all my last auctions where I purchased items went bad, everything from never receiving the goods, the items were not as described, or being damaged in transit and UPS, USPS, etc would not honor the insurance and PayPal/eBay basically told me it was not their problem.

I expect as the word gets out even more that eBay will have a very tough time attracting buyers for the auctions. I know that a lot of sellers are already pissed off because of the recent changes they have made.

Madaracs made that exact same reference yesterday in an email message.

Every time someone uses that phrase, I immediately hear (in my own head) the next line, "what a gull-a-bull."

Hey, MobileMe, don't feel so bad; GMail has been down for at least the last 4 hours for me :|

Oh, so much fun.

The eBay guy is toning down his attitude now that communications are handled through PayPal's dispute mechanism. He's still incredulous. His latest responses imply that I have not given the item to the Post Office and accuse me of "parting it out."

Really, it's now crossed the line into comedy. We're talking about $70.65 here. The amount of hassle this is turning out to be probably isn't worth that much to me... but now I have to settle this out of principle. I won't tolerate someone accusing me of the myriad crimes this yokel has fantasized about.

Yeah. He also sent me a message saying that I was "unfair" because I filed my negative feedback without giving him time to check his regular email (he said that he was only checking his eBay mailbox at the time).

The thing is, that wouldn't have mattered, I would have left that negative feedback anyway since the damage (in various forms) was already done. I only wish eBay allowed you to enter more than 80 characters. I used them as efficiently as I could:

"Shipped Late, Poorly Packaged, Damaged in Transit, Very Rude & Dishonest. AVOID!"

I actually think it's better for the seller now. They have constant sales on listing fees and it is very clear for us on what we need to do to deliver. It's never been easier to mail your items through the post office or receive payments from a credit card. If you have a scale... all of the shipping calculations are handled automatically based on the buyer's zip code.

As for the new feedback policy I am pleased as punch. I for one have always left positive feedback for my buyers immediately after receiving payment. There is no reason for me to believe a customer will leave me negative feedback unless I am slow to ship, or don't communicate. All of the nightmare's for buyers come only when you have a crappy seller.

As a buyer, I always try to bid only on items where the feedback from the Seller is trustworthy. If they have something less than 100% I check to see the last few months of feedback. If there are frequent problems I don't buy.

With eBay--even since the beginning--it has really just boiled down to common sense and careful bidding. As a seller it boils down to laying down all of the ground rules before you list. Use only actual shipping. Use the tools that are provided. As a buyer--always be aware.

(IMHO)

In Mail.app, you can select a bunch of messages and then choose "Apply Rules" from the "Message" menu. This can be useful if you have a bunch of messages in your INBOX that haven't been sorted yet even though they've already been read. I will occasionally hit CMD+A to Select All of the messages and then choose that menu option to sort them into the right folders.

But today I accidentally selected the item right below "Apply Rules" on the menu... which really sucks because that option is "Add Senders to Address Book."

So I ended up with a few hundred extra entries in my Address Book. Ugh.

I back up my Address Book every so often, because iSync will iScrew things up now and again. There is a menu option to export an archive. (Too late, I know, but for next time.)

Man, CS, I've done that a bunch of times. But with my spam folder, and using the hotkeys, instead of the menu. The hotkey that gets me is CMD-Shift-U, which marks messages read. Right next to CMD-Shift-Y.

There should be an option to have it ask for confirmation for that one.

Missed my flight and am stuck in Chicago for the evening. That normally wouldn't be bad, but my chicago friends are out of town. AA was nice enough to give me a room, but they don't give meal vouchers on domestic flights. Perhaps they should make an exception on a holiday. I am going to get some deep dish and write a letter to send to every news outlet I can think of.
