Well.

Also needed with Spork is the "ribaldry • rumors • rats" sub-moniker

in case anyone or any robot want to make me less lonely. :)

Or, does it need to be a GMAIL account? I can do that instead.

Bah! What's with this "you must have an invite from someone cool" crap to joing FacebookGoogle+

I remember they did that with gmail initially too.

It's just another social networking site that's going to make dubious privacy violations with your personal info...

Let us never forget about Paul Revere's contribution to America's independence: "He who warned, uh, the British that they weren't gonna be takin' away our arms, uh, by ringing those bells, and um, makin' sure as he's riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be sure and we were going to be free, and we were going to be armed."

I invited a bunch of people just by sharing random posts directly to their gmail address (skipping circles altogether). I'm not sure if this method is still working though.

Invites are open again.

Really? I tried using the invite I'd received but still got the "we filled our capacity" page.

It looks like invitations are meaningless. Google is simply opening the site to new registrations at random intervals.

the invite button reappeared yesterday, but apparently it only stayed up for 45 minutes. From the look of the front page now they've opened it up to anyone with a google account.

Hm, I'm still getting the "limited field trial" page.

The other issue is that I only use gmail for commercial purchases and when someone HAS to use a Google doc. So I do not have, nor really want, to have to check another Gmail account.

you can set up a google account with a different mail address, so joe@joe.com will work as a google account for sign on stuff, even if you are not using gmail with it.

I'm pretty sure it's going to be popular... at least for a while. The best part right now is that there is NO ZYNGA.

As much as I enjoy using Facebook to communicate with friends, the place just feels sleazy. Between the way that both Facebook and Zynga started out with their dubious business practices and all of the trojan clickbait and misleading advertisements, well, it was like hanging out at a coffee shop with friends while all of the other boots are occupied with junkies and pushers doing their thing.
