Politics. Don Granberry on the old Spork Boards was quite fond of talking about them, and here we continue on in that fine tradition.

Why should I have confidence in the structures of this government? They've failed at their most basic level.

You see that the Trump administration plans to use military bases to house the children taken from illegal immigrants? We're starting concentration camps for children.

I'm not going to be pervious to logic or high ideals for a while.

Apparently violent video games killed those students at Santa Fe High School in Texas. So, the gamer (we can no longer call him a shooter) hurled copies of Grand Theft Auto V at victims, following up with a barrage of Call of Duties, and finished them off by bludgeoning them with Fortnite. There were no guns or ammunition at the scene.

Conservatives in Michigan have successfully removed references to “democratic values” from the state’s [education] proposed social studies standards, arguing that the phrase is “partisan.”

Might as well remove "republic" and "democracy" as well. No point looking for "republican values," they have none beyond self-interest.

So, do they just skip over teaching the constitution?

Might as well, we've pretty much stopped using it except for the 2nd amendment, though they may bring back the 3/5 compromise.

(Yes, I am immoderately bitter and cynical about government these days.)

I'm worried about the people that need me around, my family. My industry is hit disproportionately hard in recession, as gambling is a luxury that most can do without, and I am getting to be too old to get a job as a mere programmer. Without an income and insurance, my family will suffer.

And the president thinks that the end of a long growth cycle is the time to piss off trading partners, renegotiate long-standing trade agreements, ignite a trade war, and embrace our nation's enemies. It may be a depression this time, not just a recession. I am losing faith that my children can have a decent life.

I know that this is melodramatic, and over-the-top, but things are feeling almost apocalyptic.

I'm pretty sure that the White House is going to use the FBI investigation report as a pretext to shut Mueller down, and soon.

If I was 20, and single, I would care a lot less about what the Commander in Cheese is doing.

Next time I feel like posting this crap, I will start a psychotherapy thread. Or maybe just use Spork Turrets.

What a journey.
I spoke with a recruiter/staffing person I know this week. They see my (25) years at my company as a plus for when I decide to re-enter the job market.
That was mildly reassuring. And the work effort of our generation .... hopefully... is also a plus.

I am not plugged-in to the current news cycle. Confused... WHY is a leader's pregnancy a (seemingly BIG) topic at moment? I must have missed something particularly interesting about this woman giving birth...

Twenty-odd years ago I would have been cheering court judgements like this. That's because I was an idiot who bought into most left-wing conspiracy theories.

Now, it just fills me with white-hot rage. An excellent myth debunking link below:
