The RAM is ECC as well, maybe they don't want 3rd party stuff-ups?

But yeah, not very pro.

What if some of the RAM fails?

It's idiotic. That and the nonreplaceable SSD. Screams amateur hour all over it.

Seriously was thinking of buying one, now I think it's so stupid, I decided I'll stick with what I have.

What a journey.
Heard about the iMac Pro on twit on drive in today. salivating.
I remember doing a calculation on getting an II fx, with printer, was like $12,000 - $14,000. And they had zero interest rate loans, I think.
I SO wanted one.

$5,000 is a bargain comparatively. :)

I like my Quad i7 Mac Mini, with SSD.

I just now clicked the youtube/video, and jumped ahead to some random spot. Looking at the guy's face, and seeing HIS wall out of my periphery, I swear it appeared to be the battle flag of the confederacy until I shifted my focus. It was an odd perception.

Really, the SSD isn't replaceable either? If so, that's even worse. Those things fail.

It may not be reality now, but Apple's marketing image of the iMac Pro motherboard shows four RAM slots.

Huh, good catch. That image is still live at www.apple.com/imac-pro/ too.

It's a clear design choice on Apple's part - why would they do this other than to flip the bird to a vocal minority segment they wish would instead buy laptops?

Yeah, guessing it means you have to be a certified Apple tech to work on it. It might mean the tools will become available.

so, as soon as I can, I'll put a price tracker/alert on them for $1,000... maybe in 6 years I can afford one. :)

Apple's charging $2400 for the 128GB RAM upgrade on the iMac Pro. Looks like the equivalent RAM modules go for around $1700 from a reputable brand. Assuming there really are slots in there — I wonder if not voiding the warranty is worth $700 on a computer that expensive.

How do you set up an alert like that El Jeffe?

Failure is pre-greatness.
So,... I've mostly been in the pro-Apple camp when it comes to cutting them some slack, but these last 6 months or so require someone at the mothership to get their asses kicked. Uncharacteristically sloppy, Apple.
