In America, the only respectable form of socialism is socialism for the rich.
Thanks for the reminder Steve and condolences...

Sorry it's a bit late but sorry to hear about your Dad, Steve.

I like to delude myself that because I've already had a catastrophic health issue, surely fate can't deal me another one. Pity it doesn't work that way.

Strep runs rampant in the Cooper household. Noah was sick for a full week, running a fever for six days. And just as he got better, it's Samantha's turn.

This is short-term, obviously, but ugh.

Sorry, Jeff. Watch for eczema or psoriasis in the next month; mine kicked in after strep. Apparently it's not unusual. Although the turning into a lizard part is.

I'll keep an eye out, JW. Noah had 24 hours of serious pain in his legs--watching him hobble around was a bit like watching Benjamin Button at about the same age. But at least that cleared up quickly.

What a journey.
I've had 4 small meals today. Beef roast and mashed potatoes. And one with Mahi. Done pretty well so far. But, overall I'm still losing weight. I have lost all that I had gained. I am again at an all time post-surgery low. 135.

I just KNOW the docs will want me to go back on IV feeding. I've had hot dogs and hamburgers for BLD, even had probably 20 strips of bacon over the course of one day. But, still losing weight. I have gone to the high calorie/fat diet since I began losing again. No help.

But my 'stomach' is not bothered by the all-meat diet. I've had 5 little almonds, though, and that KILLS ME. Bacon ... just fine. Strange. (or a blessing)

Now, I feel GREAT in general. Just boney. Today I woke up for the first time and actually did not feel like I had been run over by a semi the night before. Usually my side they cut open has to get unkinked every morning. It can be very painful to even take a half-breath during the morning. But today I felt great.

I even shot some basketball last night, and didn't do too bad. Well, pretty sucky, but I felt good.

The biggest thing about yesterday, though was I stepped foot back in work... temporarily. They could not fix my laptop remotely, so they asked me to come in. I almost... almost... got a little choked up. It was weird being back. Some people almost did not recognize me. One lady walked past me and I had to say hi before she recognized me. Everyone was very nice. Including my director, who has been less than nice to me in the past. Frankly, I attribute some of my problems to the director. Stress and all you know.

On another note, I met a doctor last week that worked on my Mom while I was in the hospital. He thought she was not going to make it. So, I find happiness in the BOTH of us beating our own demons. This Mother's day is a good special one because of our survival.

Take Care

I think I'm gaining your weight, Jeffe.

stan adams – May 08, 2009 04:27PM Reply Quote
I wish I could throw some of my bacon weight your way bro -- I am one of those poor slobs that eats under stress, and I have had a ton lately.

Nice to hear about your Mom too. Mine is still doing remarkably well for her age. Pretty easy to take that for granted.

I was thinking about you when the PBS thing about "doctor diaries" was tracking the Harvard Med School grad who was a ER surgeon was working in Bloomington IN -- he lives adjacent to some Hooiser National Forest. Very pretty, but he has pissed off his former bosses and now does fill-in gigs at ERs across the nation. Not a fun life...

You and everyone else. I get that alot. :)
If only I could handle the hollow calories of sodas and junk. But I can't. I'm sure it will get better.
Funniest thing is that I don't feel radically lighter now than when I was 100 pounds heavier. You know, running up steps and stuff feels roughly the same. If I were to pick up 2 and 1/2 bags of softener salt, 100 lbs, it's almost unimaginable that I was carrying that around.

El Jeffe,

You try some small weights or resistance bands. I just bought these for when I travel:

You can work a lot of different muscles with nothing but a door handle for assistance. 15-30 minutes 3 or 4 times a week and you can start adding muscle, which is the easiest way to add weight. If you have some extra money, you can hire a personal trainer, at least for a few sessions, as they can help teach you proper technique.

If I can stabilize weight, I will. Until then, I think I will just be burning more mass off.

Sorry to hear your current lapse Bill, as John said; I could also ship you some of the excess body weight. And I hear Tony's got something on stock as well.

Thanks. I'm feeling better and better. Just can't gain weight; partly due to the nausea I'm sure. But I'll get that thing kicked.
