Store is back online. No iPod touch price drop...

Jeff Cooper – June 09, 2008 02:03PM Reply Quote
Pretty surprising, that. Why would anyone buy one at this point? (Okay, I'd take a free one if I were buying a new Mac, but that's about it).

Thank goodness they're not going to make me change my email address to @me.com.

Did they ever announce when the iPhone Apps store would be available? Is it July 11?

"Early July", so yes.

So, is it $199 with or without contract.

Is it still ATT Locked here in the US?

Morg "Im thinking yes, because they cant be making much $$$ on the unit itself any more" anti

Ooh! Scary! Scary! Don't we look mean? You can't see me! But I can see you!
Maybe it's Mobileme?

Ok, so correct me if I'm wrong. If its 199 everywhere It seems to me that the countries where you have to have "open phones" implies that they cant be getting much of a "kickback' from the phone companies, and they cant be making a lot on the actual "physical product" (the phone itself).

Is it me or is apple really banking on that apple itunes store? It feels (with all of a couple hours of gut feeling) as if apple wants to go with the sony/nintendo/xbox model. Sell the "console" at a loss (or at least slightly above break even) and then rake in 30% of 10 million users buying apps?

Im sure the "medical apps" they were so obsessed with are NOT 9.99...

If phone companies can get people to pay 4 bux for a ringtone. And Bejeweled for 10 bux on your lameass free Cellphone from 2005.

10 million sophisticated users, with a SINGLE location from which to get apps, and to some degree or another those apps will "suck less"*. I think its not a bad bet to make.

Morg "I wish I had the talent for programming... sigh" anti

*I guarantee that apps that "do suck" on the apple store will get called out, and ragged on in the "who wrote this, an unemployed VB programmer" vein. Windows Mobile people dont care, as long as the app does what they need. iPhone people want it to work WELL not just work.

So tell me this.

Why can't you buy/pre-order a phone right now???

> Where to buy:
> iPhone will be available in 8GB (black) and 16GB (black or white) models1 at Apple Retail Stores and AT&T Stores.

If I believe the Apple Store page we will never be able to buy a phone online? Moronic!

Man, how cheap are first-gen iPhones gonna be now? I'm seeing the latest suckers bought for around $450 (unlocked, 8GB). Watch it fall. I could swing one of those for $100 maybe.

Hell, I might pay $200 right now and take the hit when I resell it next month. My Treo is failing quickly.

Call me PARANOID, but knowing how the ol' SJ rammed a shiny object into the backside of folks like Moto & PowerComputing back in the day (and maybe they deserved it...) would be much of a stretch for 'im to suggest to 'is not so beloved partner than if'n they don't want folks to unlock the things and use 'em on the competition then maybe At&t can use ye' olde REMOTE WIPE API to brickify any unit not properly authorized for service. Of course At&t would have to be crazier than a j-bird to pull such a stunt, but given the success they've had with all the other craptastic phones that kinda-sorta-almost-if-you-squint seem like iPhones who knows what they'd do...

How does AT&T remote wipe a phone that, by definition, isn't on their network?

Two points I didn't notice before.

MobileMe will work seamlessly with Outlook.

MobileMe will tie into AppleTV.

No online sales. Nobody is talking about this. It's like our defense budget, everyone just bends over.

Yeah, Steve's "under the weather."

Anybody else reminded of Whitney Houston?
