New air. Sure looks like the MacBook

New year. Same me. Proceed accordingly.
So it's smaller than the MB... What else?

Lol. It's also just a little insulting that the icon for power (shown during the usb-c love fest) models the look of the MagSafe connector.

So what’s new. They are breathlessly announcing features that have been out for a year

4 years for 5x improvement? Not sure that's a great trade off.

Anyone notice T2/Tx is becoming a catch all (HEVC)? It's the Trojan horse to the ARM Mac.

I weirdly like the new MBA more than the current MBP's. I was looking at refurb 2017 MBP's, but this is cheaper and probably adequate to my needs now that I don't game on Mac or develop at home any more. I'll see what people who get it think about it.

[EDIT]
The MBP Touch Bar should die.

Thinking the same thing John. My current job requires less time with VMs so I don’t really need the 32gb of ram. 13.3 with 16gb and 512 storage is going to be the standard laptop purchase I think. Nice sweet spot

The Mac line up doesn’t make sense. You can by an air for 1199 or a MacBook for $1299. And the air is faster, has a larger screen, one more port and Touch ID. I guess if you really want a slightly lighter MacBook.

All three of the MacBook lines are converging into products so subtly different that it's hard to explain why you'd buy one instead of the other — yet for some reason there are still three MacBook lines. We're reentering the Amelio era.

The Mac Mini "UFO" video was cute.

I'm not sure I will ever understand the portable/notebook MacBook____ product line up.

The Fast One, The "Pro," is a tiny bit faster than The Cheap One, The "Air," which is a tiny bit cheaper than The Light One, "The One That Doesn't Have a Name," which is a tiny bit lighter than [repeat until confusion sets in]

I like the new Mac Mini.

Follow-up question: could you attach a 3rd party external GPU to the mini for more graphics oomph?

johnny k – October 31, 2018 08:55PM Reply Quote
Yes. Mac Mini page refers to it under Connections and Expansion. They want to appeal to AV guys, and the Intel graphics won't do it.
Not enthused by the apparent lack of upgradable storage, but then it was always a bitch to take the drives out of that case.

Still, I like the Mini. Will like it more used with lower prices.

$1400 for 2 TB storage is a bit much
$1400 for 64GB RAM, same.

Is the RAM user upgradable?
