Talk about industry stock market mumbo-jumbo here.

Down 10% in after-hours trading so far.

Apple says they do have a succession plan should Jobs call it quits for good but I can't see them replacing him without a fundamental change in direction. His celebrity is part of the company's drive. His role more closely resembles that of a stage or television star. When you lose your headliner, you lose mindshare. TV shows struggle with those changes. Sometimes it works (Col. Blake/Col Potter in M*A*S*H) sometimes it fails (Bo and Luke/Coy and Vance in Dukes of Hazzard) and sometimes people barely notice (Dick York/Dick Sargent in Bewitched). CSI is about to go through it... I'm skeptical about how that's going to go over.

Apple either needs to find someone with an equal level of eccentricity or they're going to have to reinvent the company when Jobs leaves.

We'll see. I anticipate some product updates between now and the end of June. Obviously, they've been in development for some time, but it will be interesting to see how they're rolled out without The Steve. More Schillerama, or just press releases?

Business issues aside, I hope he just gets well, he might be an asshole, but he's got a family too.

In America, the only respectable form of socialism is socialism for the rich.
Well guess what?

My portfolios and retirement account are still in the tank.

Steve's replacement is going to be... Justin Long.

You don't think I'm eccentric enough for you? I'll do it. I want more than $1 a year though and the jet. Plus, I don't want to leave Jersey. I had my fill of California.

I know that I would rather have Jobs running Apple.

From here:

The fact is, late last week I spoke to two well-known tech industry executives, both of whom are very close to Jobs, and one of whom had been speaking to Jobs regularly up until a couple of months ago. Neither has an axe to grind, and neither needs to manipulate Apple stock to make more money. Trust me when I tell you that both have plenty. What struck me was that both felt compelled to come to me to tell me that they had "serious misgivings" about the state of Jobs' health. One said, based on his contact with Jobs personally, that he was in "serious denial" about just how bad the circumstances had become. The other explained to me that he was "deeply concerned" about Jobs, and the sudden lack of communication, the non-return of emails, ignoring chat requests, unreturned phone calls was a strong indication to him that Jobs was in "dire" shape.

I tend to believe this. I remember, after Steve's cancer episode was over, we saw stories about how he spent precious time trying to find alternatives to the surgery which fit better with his personal philosophy. He might be doing the same thing again if faced with diagnoses which would require major life/lifestyle changes. Whatever. I hope that he does what he wants to do and lives the life he wants to live.

I have to say, I've wondered if his pescetarianism may have contributed to the problems and whether his treatment will require him to start eating prime rib.

If this is his way of saying 'one more thing', I'm sure the stock holders are not amused. It seems that the report of 10 days ago in some Mac publication wasn't that far off after all...

I'm pretty sure that Jobs isn't doing this just to screw with the shareholders.

He may be losing the rest of his pancreas. And/or have diabetes.

Insulin is a hormone, and substantial tinkering with the pancreas - reducing or stopping production - will cause type 1 diabetes, a symptom of which is weight loss.. It all fits..

That's all earnings from the post Lehman Bros era.

And despite all the current economic challenges it's still the Best. Quarter. Ever.

Apple closed just under $100. Getting there. Or, perhaps, the dollar is just beginning the massive inflationary period it's going to have.

I'm sick. For some reason I quickly thought "We need a massive Kotex, stat!"
