Fired up the Cube today. It's about as souped up as a Cube can get (1.2 GHz G4). Running Panther and age-appropriate apps, it feels pretty snappy. And running OS 9 it's just absurd.

I especially like the closet in Union Square. Yes, $1000/month for the privilege of sleeping on a twin-size bed in a closet. But it's an amazing location!

I'll have to try that place. Draft beer menu looks disappointing, though, at least for someone looking for English beer/ale.

Oh what about making your own music?
I've got some guitars and pedals that I'm having fun with. My wife and daughter have an electric piano that has a MIDI out port. So I could use it as a keyboard for a synthesizer.
I love the sound of the old analog synths like DSoTM or old Rush albums. Any cheap gateway playing with sort of sound via software, for example, on the iPad?

Sorry, I thought the comments were sufficiently vague that they give nothing away.
Kinda thought it was current knowledge that Joffrey's engaged to be married.
Sure, the engagement is current knowledge (and creepy as hell, if only because Joffrey's involved). When the marriage will take place in the series run, and the order in which the various

Joffrey's wedding won't be 'til season 4 - halfway through give or take (at a guess).
Are these not spoilers?

My dad had a McIntosh receiver about 30-35 years ago. Some good speakers, too, but I can't remember what those were. All gone now, of course.

took wife's car in because she heard grinding noise.
$400 quote/estimate for brakes.
Said no thanks. Got parts $89.... DONE!
That's an iPad mini in savings!
Plus, got to show my sons, and there were three other sons of other fathers over at the time.
Five nuts (part on car... not the boys!); two bolts per wheel is all that needs wrenching.
Easy, peasy.
Impressive!

While in law school, I worked part-time for Mitchell & Ness Sporting Goods in Philadelphia. M&N had just started making replica flannel baseball jerseys when I started working for them; they weren't even yet licensed by Major League Baseball. They actually paid me money to go trhough old magazin

After weeks of waffling, I placed an order this morning for an X1 x28i. Much as I wanted the various safety stuff, after multiple test drives this is the car my gut told me I wanted (my gut being swayed, in part, by the substantial cost differential between this and the 3-series wagon).

Indy's housing market is among the cheapest--maybe the cheapest--of the urban housing markets in the US. Anyone moving from here to an urban center on either coast (or to Chicago) is in for a terrible shock. When I made the opposite move in the mid-'90s, coming from the Northeast Corridor to Indianapolis, I was stunned by how affordable housing was. And my sense is that the gap has gotten bigg

A big step today on the running comeback trail, after my winter surgeries and illness: I ran a 5k race on a perfect spring morning. My time, 32:23, wasn't great, but it felt good to be up and moving, and to have other runners around me (I've been training again for about six weeks). Onward!

My 2009 iMac and I are soon to be parted by death. Its death, I'm hoping. Trying to decide what to do about it. I have enough that it technically doesn't need replacing. But it sure is convenient having it where it is; if I don't replace it, I'

No offense, Bill, but (1) I think the wild west puts the lie to the maxim "an armed society is a polite society," and (2) I have no interest in lving a life of politeness based on fear. (Further discussion probably belongs in the Parlor).

It's a thought, ddt, and thanks for the suggestion, but I'm looking to move on from an eight-year-old car.
This is likely to be my last car; that being the case, I'm inclined to splurge a bit and to be pretty insistent that it have what I'm looking for. My criteria leave me with relatively limited choices:
[*] Relatively small, not much bigger than my 2005 TSX, if at all bigger. [*] More powerfu

I drove a $100,000 car this morning (okay, $99,000+, but tax would take it over a hundred grand). I went to the BMW dealer to re-test the X1 and the 328i and to try out the driver assistance/lane departure package. The only cars they had on the lot with the lane departure stuff were a 7-series sedan and a 650i convertible. Nice day--let's try the latter! That twin-turbo V8 moves the car along
