So, I finally bit the bullet and bought a house. Closing is on 20 October, and while there is some excitement, there is mostly anxiety. I hate moving and I am not looking forward to packing. It was a choice between this house and this house. I went for the lower price, with more square footage. JW, if finances will allow, I would suggest getting a 4 to 1 HDMI AV receiver, along with all the other inputs and such that it supports, with support for most up to date versions of HDMI. We bought a Yamaha RX-V367 and i just realized it will take the TOSLink and MiniDisplay to HDMI and just combine the signals with HDMI video to tv and audio to the surround speakers. My issue is that HDMI video settings on the previous generation Mini are not sticky. I am using the mini Display to HDMI adapter connecting straight to my television and controlling via VNC. When I switch the video input on the TV away from that HDMI input, I can see the resolution change in my VNC window, and I have to reconnect VNC every so often. I have a large LG LCD TV with the cable box, the PS3 and the Mac Mini all hooked up via HDMI cables. I seem to remember a post somewhere regarding a pixel being turned white in OS X. The pixel is in the top right hand corner and shows up with everything, but only when the Mac Mini is the source. If the PS3 or the cable box are the source, there are no issues. I signed up for netflix, so I could have instant download of "Primeval", but since they don't have "The Mentalist" or "Kingdom" on instant download, i had to go for 3 DVD at a time. Yeah, this should be under Multimedia.by Steve Cordova - Spork Central

Delurking here. After surviving for 5 years with stage 4 colo-rectal cancer, my father passed away April 22. Both my sister and I were with him that morning, to take him to his oncologist, however the strain of the trip (in town) was too much for him. Since they are bought via iTunes, I don't think VLC can play them even if they aren't corrupt. I went command line and found that the MD5 from a corrupt file is different from the MD5 for the same file that is good. I am going to try to recover the files again overnight.by Steve Cordova - Spork Central

I was able to rescue the files off a USB external drive that I accidentally initialized in the ATV USB episode over the weekend using Data Rescue II. Now I can't get iTunes to recognize and play them. This is all data since late December, including new episodes of LOST, Burn Notice and Anthony Bourdain, as well as full albums I got off iTunes. stupid apple and stupid ATVusb creator. Apple put out an update to ATV that wiped out non apple software (stupid me for having auto updates turned on) and then ATV USB creator wiped out one of my USB HDs. If you have a gui, don't list disks by /dev/disk#. And its taking forever to create the patchstick.by Steve Cordova - Spork Central
