Yes, I've used GoPros 2 and 3 (black) for outdoor time lapse. Your biggest problem will be getting power into the thing, and keeping it watertight. The waterproof housing doesn't allow for external power, and the battery life won't let you do a really long timelapse.

Lion Server also has the VPN built-in, though it's harder to get a copy of Lion Server in the age of the App store... pfSense is a web front-end to a firewall based on pf, which is OpenBSD's state-ful firewall. Phorum has been very low maintenance. If I had to choose today, I might go with something which has a more current design (UI/UX and code) but I haven't really done that research. Vanilla looked promising, and there are the reddit clones, and also I think that Discourse looks pretty great: http://www.discourse.org/

You'd want to go from the LFE out of the receiver to the LFE in of the subwoofer. Again, using the speaker cable will likely result in a lot of hum, and maybe even picking up of radio stations.

RCA sub outs on receivers typically aren't powered, so either your sub will need to be powered (i.e. have an amp built in) or you will need to put an outboard amp up near the receiver to take the RCA out and then connect that amp's speaker out to your binding posts. If you decide to connect the RCA from your receiver to the binding posts for use with a powered sub, you'll want to make sure that

The Lytro is neat, but the pictures are so low-res, it's just hard to justify shooting it alongside my DSLRs. My travel photo kit just doesn't have room for it.
