Etc.

And it's a very scuzzy port.

lol, I'd never heard of that story. Although my grandfather had stories of the Muse in Rotterdam being frozen up to the point of cars driving over it. This is quite a big and fast streaming river, so it was a pretty cool winter.

Those came out 5 or 6 years ago. They're pretty cool.

Anybody want a bunch of Amiga magazines? I have two boxes of them on eBay right now:

Lot 1

Lot 2

When you get rid of those, do you want my 80Micro collection?

Here's a tempting piece of history:

A Macintosh Portable Prototype.

Auction ends tonight. Hmm.

>I understand shipping is very high, due to the box weight (almost 17 lbs).

Heh. The weight issue rears its head again.

I'm really tempted to bid on it but I just bought a Mac Color Classic so I should probably hold off on any new purchases until I get more of my current clutter cleared out.

The Color Classic was delivered today. I think I'm going to swap the system board out with a Performa 550 board (more RAM and double the CPU speed). In order to do that, though, I have to update the OS... so I'm in the process of downloading each of the 19 disk image files, copying them to a USB floppy drive and then copying them from the floppy to the hard drive on the Color Classic. I'm currently on Disk 10. This is taking a while.

Then I will have to do the same thing with the Apple IIe emulator card software so I can install that in this machine as well.

Oh, yeah... I forgot to mention that this was complicated by the fact that Apple has removed the ability to write to Mac-formatted floppies in Snow Leopard. You can still read them but you can't write to them. So I am using that old G4 Mac Mini to shuttle the disk images.

Something interesting... this machine used to belong to a gynecologist in New York and it still had patient records on it.

I didn't look at them. I just deleted them in order to make enough space to unpack the 7.5.3 install images and run the install.

It's almost all set now. I have the 550 motherboard installed so it now has a 33MHz 68030 and 20MB RAM. The IIe emulator card is installed and working as well.

I played a game of Shufflepuck Cafe, too.

The only thing left to do is dig up a 25-pin to 25-pin SCSI cable so I can hook up the DaynaPORT SCSI Ethernet adapter. I would like to find an external SCSI CD-ROM as well and maybe a bigger hard drive. The 80MB drive that's in it now is pretty cramped.

I probably have a SCSI CDROM drive and a bunch of SCSI hds.

BTW, even though it wasn't clear, CS, that previous link was for you, re: HFS on 10.6.

I have some old SCSI gear that I used with my PB145b (and the 145b too...) 100MB Zip drive mainly IIRC, if you're interested.

Thanks for that link. I may fiddle with that later on since I'll be giving this G4 Mac Mini to my sister soon so I may need a backup method of writing to HFS drives.

When you mentioned your 145b, it reminded me that I picked up a PowerBook 180 at the thrift store last year. I had forgotten all about it. It's been sitting in the garage so I just grabbed it and started tinkering with it and there seems to be a problem with using the floppy drive. When I put a disk in, it starts to read the disk and then just powers off. It almost seems like it is using too much power when it tries to spin up the drive. I wonder, does it rely on the battery for supplemental power even when it's plugged in to AC? I wonder if I can get a battery for this thing.

Tom, how much would you want for a CD-ROM and a SCSI HD? Anything 120MB or more would be great.

The CDROM I have is not in a case.

I have four 4GB external drives. The cases for those have centronics connectors on them. I'd say you could have two, and use one of the cases for the CDROM, but the cases are for 3 1/2 drives, so while it would work, it wouldn't look great.

$20/item plus shipping would be fine :)

I haven't been able to get a battery for my PowerBook 100, but maybe your luck will be better than mine.
