Steve Jobs says MobileMe is, "not up to Apple's Standards."

It's nice to know they still have some.

In what is, perhaps, his biggest "no-duh" moment, he says:

With all of my bitching, I haven't had a chance to mention that the new webmail (and calendar and contacts) client is UTTER CRAP. It's SLOOOOOOOOW. I was happy for a moment when I realized that our proxies aren't blocking me.com (they had mac.com blocked) but now I don't care since it's unusable anyway.

I use google for my domains. It works well. Has a good webmail client. I like to upload my pictures from lightroom to picasa. Docs allows me to collaborate on documents. Calendaring works great with busysync. Is there anything I'm missing? :o

Yes, Google Docs for your domain is absolutely great, but as with all 'cloud' applications, once it's gone, it's gone.

Indeed to safeguard against this, I read e-mail using IMAP (and fully download all messages instead of just the headers) and sync Google Calendar against local software.

I was trying to get my MobileMe mail on my iPhone and it wouldn't load. So I went to my laptop and found that I couldn't get it to load there either. I tried going to the webmail interface and I get the following message:

Your MobileMe Mail is currently unavailable.
We apologize for this service interruption and are working hard to resolve the problem.
For more information, please refer to System Status on the MobileMe Support Page.

Of course, the MobileMe Support Page says that all MobileMe services are functional.

It does answer one question, at least, the MobileMe System Status doesn't actually reflect the System Status. It's merely historical since they don't update it until after problems are resolved. How convenient.

MobileMe mail's been down for hours.

"We are investigating an issue with this service. We will resolve the issue or provide updated information as soon as possible. Service will be restored ASAP. We apologize for any inconvenience."

Best possible interpretation would be something for tomorrow. Most likely explanation: somebody breathed on the house-of-cards which is the MobileMe infrastructure.

That's funny. I came into the office and many of our servers were unavailable too! Yippee, so called world class infrastructure pundits are at work here too, also on public facing operations!

Hopefully the iTunes store guy will take care of the MobileMe thing -- I'd like to subscribe for a few of the features.

The System Status Recent History page on Apple's MobileMe Support site does not paint a pleasant picture. 12 outages in the last 17 days. I'm curious about Microsoft's Hotmail outage history. I'm inclined to think that Apple has had more MobileMe outages in the last two months than Hotmail has had in the last two years.

And... another outage. Of course the MobileMe support page says that everything is working but myself and many others are reporting in forums that outbound mail is failing.

I turned off the automatic renewal a couple of months ago and removed my credit card information from the account. When it expires, I'm done.
