This will be a temporary thing (6 months or so) until I can get my own server set up. Right now I'm just looking for a host as a placeholder and to do some basic stuff, get things laid out.

A lot of bang for the buck.

But... there are issues if you use Gallery for your photos.

Well, a cow-orker brought in an eeePC running Ubuntu. I'd been resisting picking one of these up since November. Seeing one in person pushed me over the brink. (Now I have to sell a rifle to pay for it, dammit.) After all, you can run OS X on them (Sort of), and they will run WinXP quite well. Anybody have any personal experience with these?

I've seen it at the education tradeshow BETT in London that I visited last week. Tiny, tiny screen but the included OS was very usable. For the price (at least in Europe) I thought it was feeling a bit cheep tho. Trackpad button was especially feeling clunky.

Also, OS X on the thing? I'd say the dock would fit on the screen, but not much else :-)

I use Dreamhost and in general I like them a lot. You are NOT allowed to use the massive GBage for backup (alas) but they give tons. I have 224gb available. I use about 12.

They do have glitches, but I've been with cheaper quality hosts and they are not bad at all. Everyone will have glitches in the end.

It's not cpanel, but that's as well, cpanel has issues.

they seem to have ditched all their plans and now just have one plan which you can switch over to for the same price as the old crazy domain insane plan. You get 500gb starting storage.

two questions i probably should already know the answers to:

1. i usually sync my iphone to my desktop but am traveling and have my laptop. how can i move some podcasts from my laptop -> iphone w/o losing another music playlist, photos, etc.?

2. my laptop's battery seems to lose charge while asleep and while off. like, an overnight while sleeping and not plugged in, it'll go from fully charged to almost dead. is my battery toast or can i reset it somehow, or check?

I can usually sync individual tabs of iPhone features to different computers. I believe Podcasts are considered separately from Music. Definitely from photos and information. So, you can just check off the Podcast tab, you'll lose all podcasts to this sync though.

It's not very well spelled out. They could do a better job here from a UI perspective.

Lithium based batteries don't get memory effect so there is no way to "reset" them. If they're dead, they're dead. How old is the battery?

about two years. i mean, i thought i remembered there was a way to reset the sensors that might think the battery's low on charge. though i have come back to a sleeping computer that's gone from a full charge to hibernation (when not plugged in). probably time to get a new battery. sigh.

You can try resetting the PMU. That might help.
