Well, why not? this is a community, after all.

If they are your domains, set up SPF records for them also. Since no email should be coming from my domains, my SPF records say that no servers or IPs are allowed to send email for them. If they are not your personal domains, but you are sending email via your own server, you may have to contact the group that handles DNS for these domains to see if you can have your server IP added to their SPF record. Looking at bounce messages from your server should give you the reason why you aren't able to send email.

as for trying to fix the colleague's ibook (g4, 10.3.9, Eudora 6.2): seems that only older emails are a bit munged -- no headers, content is a bit garbled, while more recent emails are okay. the problem is, cannot find any .toc or .mbox files. partially this is due to the finder's Find feature finding nothing, even files i can see _right there_ (WTF?), but besides that, after poking around, cannot find the .toc or .mbox. probably doesn't help there's over 112MB of messages in there.

any ideas? fixing Find, finding the .tocs? reluctant to unleash a "rebuild" utility on the app in this condition.

URGENT -- supposed to get this done tonight.

Funny you should mention that, I have exactly the same problem with my XP laptop. Windows won't find any files. It's driving me nuts.

I'd make a backup of the disk/eudora folder before proceding. If you've done so, you have your hands free to do any (destructive) research that might be neccesary. Try using another e-mail program to import Eudora's mail and see if that works.

Is there an easy way to transfer a Windows XP Pro system to a new drive? My GF has a desktop with a 40GB drive, would be nice to get a larger drive installed. Or perhap I'd just add a second drive.

Another question: what's a good basic free/cheap photo editor for WinXP?

Bruce, I've heard Norton Ghost is good for full-system backups and restores. Haven't used it myself, since it doesn't work with Boot Camp.

If I'm remembering right this was a pretty good one (cheap too) for a Photoshop wannabe ('tho I remember it being in the hands of a company called Jasic, for some reason). Free download here, though I don't know if it will work in your case.

Otherwise, you're off to the House of Mud for:

I'll take a look, thanks. Not looking for a Photoshop wannabe; maybe an iPhoto wannabe. Though I have to admit to never looking very closely at Photoshop my impression is that it is a uselessly bloated application that is inappropriate for most users.

From the website for Sigma Photo Pro:

Who can download?

Customers who SIGMA SD9, SD10 and SD14 cameras.

Maybe Picasa is what I want.

In America, the only respectable form of socialism is socialism for the rich.
Picasa isn't so much an editor ... it does small things and is a pretty nice organizer. It's free.

For editing maybe try that http://www.picnik.com/

I use The Gimp for Windows and it does a pretty good job.

I don't know about a whole drive, but I just used file and settings transfer wizard to import my wife's user account to her (surprise!) macbook for xmas. it was pretty funny, her whole account was 365 mb. i realize i could've put it on a flash drive. mine is something like 200gb and that's if I keep it pared down.

bahamut – December 25, 2007 06:47PM Reply Quote
got wife a macbook. she likes it. had it configured to launch her windows xp configuration from her old work computer. stupidly after transferring files and settings using that wizard and looking into trying to get her to log onto her domain, we now can't log into her account anymore. windows now wants her to log into her work domain but since that can't be found, we can't log into her computer anymore. FUCK. what he hell happened?

I did a lot of work to that thing... now there's no way to log into the computer and no way to log her into her account. should have created an admin account, i know. any hope? anyone?

Baha, I saw this for a related problem, and thought it might help:

Password Resetting

No personal experience with this.

You might be able to find some of the winternals tools on torrents, but you will aslo hit a lot of malware sites. The Mac is a great ally in doing this, as virtually nothing you find will harm it...

And I have had personal experience with this.

Baha, it sounds to me like the computer thinks that it is supposed to be a member of the domain at her office now. Whether you created one or not, there is a local administrator account on the machine. I'm not sure how the transfer tools work, but it's possible that it set the local admin password to the same password used by the local admin account on the machine you transferred the settings from. You can use this tool to reset the password for the local Administrator account. Then you can log in and "remove" the computer from the domain so it just uses local accounts again. You'll need to manually copy the data and settings from the user profile for her domain account, though, since she won't be able to log into that account anymore.

Not so much a request for help because I already figured it out but...when they said that the IDE controllers in the G4 could only support drives up to 127 gb, they meant it. I just lost hours of work because I put a 160gb drive in the G4 and it mounted fine so it didn't occur to me that there was any problem until I discovered that my FCE project file was corrupted.
