If you have to replace a Mighty Mouse (I know, there is love/hate about that device), what was the verdict between Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad?

I'm sure some of you are going to suggest a 3rd-party mouse, but really, I'm interested in thoughts on these two. If it matters, this would be for Leopard/PPC, so the Lion gestures (for example) aren't really a factor.

MBP is now in the shop. Good news was that its Apple Care runs out NEXT month, and that it was willing to demonstrate the problem for two of the folks in the store, so I am unlikely to get a diagnosis of, "It looks okay to us." Which can happen with intermittent problems. My first guess (based on other reports of similar problems), is a failing display. Second guess is failing video card. Third guess is logic board. I hope that they don't have to swap the logic board; that means I'll have to unregister all my machines with iTunes and re-register them. And Windows will decide its not activated again.

Still, I'm pleased that Apple will be picking up the tab this time.

The tech says it IS the display, and they've ordered a new one. 3-5 days without my primary computer. Could be worse; I've got the MBA to keep things going, and a Toshiba laptop for Wintendo.

Not sure where you are, but in California, everyday they have it during repair gets tacked on to the end of the warranty period, had to pull that one time with Apple.

What a journey.
It should follow Fibonaccian progression.
First day adds no days (if they can fix it on same day-no biggie)
second day adds one day
Third day adds one day (total, not supplemental)
Fourth day adds two days
Fifth day adds three days
Sixth day --> 5
Seventh --> 8

that way, if they get it done REASONABLY quickly, it's not that big a deal. As it drags on, it gives them the impetus to fix it, or you'll end up with a lifetime warranty, or they can give you a replacement at any point they feel the extra warranty is not worth it.

Sorry for the delayed response, I've been rather sporadic. Trackpad all the way. I won't go back to anything else. Work bought one for me and I'll be buying my own at home from here as soon as I upgrade to something with bluetooth. Battery life is a month or two with daily use and it pairs perfectly with my extended keyboard.

Well, a new display didn't fix the problem, so now it's a new logic board. All that annoying DRM stuff will have to be reconciled again. Oh, well, at least the repair's free and I have backups if needed.

New logic board fixed my problem. Glad that's over with.

Anybody have a recommendation for a small Mac-friendly color laser printer/scanner? Ideally with duplex. I'm eyeing the Brother printer that CS is so fond of, but it's monochrome. I realize that I'm asking for everything in one package, and it's likely not available and certainly not cheap. Let me know if you know of one that fits these requirements.

There is a color version of the printer I have. The Brother MFC-9460CDN. It's a networked color laser printer/scanner with duplex and is Mac-friendly. $540 isn't too bad to get all of that in one package.

I've been looking at it, as well as some of the higher-end Brother printers (based on your initial recommendation of your monochrome). The feature set looked right, the size was a little big, but acceptable. Some of them had some negative reviews, but most tech products will garner a few. I will probably end up getting one of the Brothers, but I thought I'd troll the Sporkish Seas to see if anybody had anything else to offer. Thanks for the feedback.

Your cable is probably kaput. I think they make it easy on you, the just have you replace the entire screen.

Maybe you'd like to upgrade to the vapor-books pro coming out this month?

Logic board swap fixed the issue. I am getting one of the new MBP's, if they ever come out and have >= 750 GB of internal storage, but I wanted the old MBP to be in good shape for my wife, or kids, or Alan Lehman, or whoever inherits it. After all, the repair was free under Apple Care.
