Well, why not? this is a community, after all.

ddt, they're an "interactive marketing and advertising agency". Get past the Flash and you might actually like some of what they stand for. ;-)

And thanks, all! Nothing's done until it's done, of course. At least it's a step forward.

Anybody using Lion systems in an Active Directory environment with 802.1x and Cisco VPN connectivity requiring Machine certificates for authentication? Would you be willing to share any tips for setting up a proper certificate enrollment template?

FWIW, I passed your question through a system integrator company I know... got back (functionally) "that's a non-trivial research project".

Yeah, I think I have it ironed out. It's a serious mess, though.

This would be one of those situations where it's clear Apple has no idea how their own product works. It's the result of bolting open source software onto your OS without truly understanding its functionality.

They have no documentation. Their support engineers provide suggestions rather than actual instructions.

For a few years, I felt like Apple was making a real effort to improve their enterprise capabilities. Now it's clear that they have completely given up on it.

I've heard similar feedback WRT Lion and AD integrations. Serious step backward is the characterization. I don't know first-hand, but some of the folks at that shop I posed your question to do...

Throughout OS X, the capabilities of OS X server were bringing it closer to being enterprise level. With each release of OS X, directory integration was getting better and better. Lion server is not better than snow leopard for most things unless you have a lot of iOS devices you want to manage.

Guess what I was able to save?

(The second picture is Ahmad Bradshaw on his way to scoring the weirdest winning touchdown in Super Bowl history.)

I tried Lexar Image Rescue earlier in the week, without success. Today, I bought a new card reader (being suspicious of the cheap one I'd been using--this one's at least a name brand, Belkin). I went to the Prosoft site, figuring I'd give Data Rescue 3 a try, but noticed that they had a dedicated photo recovery program, called Klix. I bought that, launched it, and noticed that, except for a single graphic, it looked identical to the Lexar interface. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same program. In any event, I gave it a shot, and sure enough, the pictures all showed up as salvageable.

Thanks to all for assistance and encouragement.

Off all the pictures I took that evening, this is the one I was most upset at the thought of having lost:

That would be my dad, during the post-game celebration.

What a journey.
Cool.
Did you get any of the half-time?

Jeff Cooper – February 11, 2012 04:56PM Reply Quote
I was in the end zone. The stage was at midfield at a 90 degree angle to me. The lighting was not conducive. So,, no.

Remember I was asking for some help with getting some stock footage a couple weeks ago? It was for a final presentation for a training course I was in at work. The video turned out fine. The presentation went well.

Fast Forward to today and I am helping my gf shop for a new shredder. I stumbled across the "Swingline Stack-and-Shred" and decided to show her the promo video for it.

The background music in the promo video uses the exact same GarageBand loop I used in my presentation. After slaving over that audio track for a couple of hours, It was weird to hear it in a different context.

I'm glad the recovery worked, Jeff.

Phew, Jeff!

On another topic... anyone have any idea why all of a sudden every email I have in Mail.app is now two? If someone sends me an email, there are two of them. I'm tired of manually deleting dupes, and it gets to be a pain when trying to manipulated threaded email conversations.

I'm in 10.6.8.

That's happened to me before -- IIRC rebuilding the affected mailboxes (Mailbox menu -> Rebuild) fixed it for me, though it's been a while so I may be remembering wrong.

I think that's what fixed it for me. Might have been under Panther, though. Long time ago.

ddt – February 13, 2012 11:35AM Reply Quote
Thanks! We'll see if that works.

Weird followup (pre-rebuild): went looking for some emails, and they were in the Trash mailbox! So I'd deleted what appeared to be dupes, but then there was only one copy... deleted. Bad!

I had to try very hard to not smash the WDTV Live "streaming media solution" into thousands of pieces tonight. This is the second unit that's shat itself. NO MORE!

Question for AppleTV users - do all your movies have to be in the iTunes Library? (that's going to be problematic.

How much of a nightmare is it to jailbreak and install Plex?

[edit] Fuck yeah, all this streamy/cloudy stuff just rocks! Not unreliable at all. Never...
