Periodic check: what service are people using lately to register (cheaply) a domain?

name.com is fast and reliable, as is dotster.com. Don't know any of the cheap and cheerful providers.

crazydomains is cheap but I think they're only Oz based.

namecheap.com - good simple design, and yes, cheap. People tell me gandi.net is good, too.

i second namecheap …

hey i have a problem… my time capsule has gone batshit crazy. i use it as the primary router past the fios thingie so when it goes down everyone freaks out.

i've rebooted it numerous times. i haven't restored it to default settings although that's next. i've tried uploading 7.52 firmware (it was on 7.6) but it won't take it.

any ideas?

Has anyone who has switched to the "new look" gmail web interface measured its CPU load against the (I guess we have to call it) "old look"? I'd try to do it, but I don't see a guarantee that I can switch back if I don't like it -- and knowing Google, even if it were possible, it'd require hunting through 20-50 clicks to do it.

Lacking patience,

I would like to find an empty PowerMac G5 case. Well, it doesn't have to be empty, I could empty it out myself but the plan is to modify it to fit an ATX motherboard.

I have a dual G5 power mac, unused for years. Power supply blew, I spent $400 replacing it, but now it had no hard drives.

Heavy to ship, though!

I just searched Craigslist here and this morning someone happened to list a PowerMac G5 case for sale for $30.

I emailed him to say I want it. Hopefully that works out. Otherwise it looks like the going rate for a 1.8GHz model here is about $150. I'm not sure I want to spend that much just to cannibalize it for its case but we'll see. I've been reading up on how other people have managed their conversions and I think I have a few ideas for how I will approach it.

wow, I'd like a case for no good reason for $30 myself!

Sadly, someone else beat me to it and is supposed to be picking it up at lunchtime today. I'm second in line if that guy's a no-show, though.

Let me know if you're interested... maybe I can get local people to scrounge/salvage the components to empty the case out a bit. I'm tired of hauling the dead thing from closet to closet each time I move.

Sure. I'd be interested. I would probably like to keep several of the components, though. You said the hard drives are already gone which is fine, I don't need those. I don't need the optical drive or the CPUs either. The rest I would probably need, though.

Of all the mods I've seen, the best ones take the old ports off of the motherboard and wire them to the ports on the new motherboard in order to keep the back of the case intact. I plan to reuse the fans, dividers and other panels to keep the completed build looking as much like the original as possible (and maintaining the airflow dynamics).

Just let me know how much cash you need from me.

Any experience and comments on SRS Labs iWoW software?
It's $15 http://bit.ly/rwtuKH
I listen to spoken language audio podcasts via bluetooth earpiece in MONO. Anything this iWOW can do for me? I can't see that there is.

I know this question has been answered in the past, but the tech marches on...

A friend wants recommendations for a printer/scan/copy for Mac/PC, under $150. Inket, laser...?

Go to it!

I've had my Brother DCP-7065DN for a couple of months now and I absolutely love it.

Duplexing Laser Printer with scanner, copier and Ethernet. Works great with both Windows and Mac including scanning over the network.

Fry's has a $49 canon with wireless (iOS/Android). Seems nice enough. Low end, but should work fine.
