Cool! I'll tweet about you from under the bridge. And who knows... new usage: shopping cart theft alarm. :-)
[EDIT]It's making its way through FB and the Twittersphere now (including a Dalrymple-net RT). Mark is one of the instructors at Big Nerd Ranch so that RT is a good thing.

Wow, of the handful of kickstarter projects I've backed, that was my fastest "click to back" time ever.
tl;dr I'm in.

I'll keep this simple.
Thank you, Tom, for keeping the lights on.
Thank you everyone else (including Tom) for making it worth sticking around.

I thought so too, but then I suddenly remembered that Alan,
Alan has been the one all along.
I will be sure to suck those ideas out of your brain, ddt (and the rest of you).

Hey jk, I know someone interested in digging into the programmability of Twine. Should he send email to connect@... or what's a preferred method?

I had to call Amazon customer service to have them do something with my account. I guess my account was associated with Mechanical Turk many years ago and you can't use it for both Mechanical Turk and payments to other sites so they had to close my Mechanical Turk account in order for me to set it up to use with Kickstarter.

My uncle died a few years ago. He'd been hit by a car, and after an extended period in the hospital and recovery facilities, he passed away. He'd never married, but he had a long-term (three or four decades) girlfriend. She came to family events and was my aunt in all but name. She was the nicest little old lady you'd ever want to meet, and she was constantly at my uncle's side during his long decline.
Last Sunday she was
brutally murdered, in the course of a robbery.
Nancy Dailey was found with her hands tied behind her back and her throat slit.
I have a lot to be thankful for at this season, but the thought of that decent, kind, generous old woman spending her last moments in terror and pain drives all of them from my mind. I have a lot to say about the "people" who did this to her, but she wouldn't want me to be so uncharitable.

So sorry to hear, JW. You seem to be on the right track, though, mourning for her while remembering her at her best, and honoring her by not wasting yourself on hate. That's the only thing you can do to respect her memory now, I guess.
Let us know what we can do.
(And for those who don't know, Royal Oak is -- or was, last time I was there -- a sleepy, cute little suburb.)

Oh, I hate. But thanks, ddt. There's really nothing to be done. The police caught the criminals very quickly and as for the rest, it can't be undone.
I was born in Royal Oak, and spent my first few years there and in Birmingham nearby. And, of course, I went back for a few family visits in the sixties and seventies. When I returned for my Uncle's memorial service it was almost eerie how the area resonated with me. A constant feeling of deja vu, and an odd feeling of being home. I even thought of moving there if my situation in Reno went south. Of course, moving to Detroit in this economy would be foolhardy, especially for a software engineer. It was really weird how hard the area called to me after almost forty years away, though.

The impression I get from your description of her life makes the contrast of her death even more painful. At least the suspects are in custody.
On a lighter note, I'm the first in line at Target right now. It doesn't feel like something to be proud of. Once upon a time I scoffed at the fools who lined up for Black Friday. Then my dad talked me into joining him a few years back. I still thought it was crazy but it became a fun tradition for me and my dad. Still, we never showed up anywhere more than an hour before they opened.
This year I almost feel shame. My dad isn't even here with me because he's in line at a different Target 40 miles away. At least I'll be the first one in when they open at midnight so I can get in and out quickly.
