My boss would prefer me in the office, sans firearms. I've burned all my time off for this lifetime for some medical issues, so my wife will be marching without me.

My wife did read a warning, saying that in open carry states any violence could lead to gunfire. This adds a level of ominous foreboding to the whole affair. I did think about letting her take my sword...

What a journey.
Glad that didn't end in "Ice-DDT" with blue eyes, being pulled out of culvert by tow truck.

No casualties at the protest. Glad that the Trump chicken could make it. Best sign: "We Shall Overcomb."

Johnny -- that'd have been impressive, as I was in my car! At least my foot is just sprained, not broken. Now the real pain begins: figuring out how to get up to Napa (where the car was towed for assessing) to get all my personal stuff and roof rack, etc., off the carcass, seeing if the insurance company will repair it or say it's totaled.

I emailed my family that I'm okay and my dad's response was, "you better hope they'll repair it as you cannot afford a new car". Being supportive is a wonderful thing.

JW, hope she has a great time and glad it's not 145F as it seems Arizona was. There might be some good signs to read.

Well, the "patriot prayer"/"free speech" thing (note the use of "they do not really know what those words mean" quotation marks) did not really go so well in SF. Tens of thousands of peaceful protestors marches -- I'm sorry, "scary violent people with their reggae music and banners" -- got the white supremacists to broadcast on Facebook Live from Pacifica... and someone's couch? Brave, brave master race.

Looking forward to peacefully marching in Berkeley tomorrow.

Just in case your chosen news outlet is hyperfocused on "o my smelling salts, there was antifa VIOLENCE in Berkeley!!!" -- I was there for hours and hours, and the same neo-Nazi whose supporters are on record as wanting to shoot people fled, with three layers of police escorts, while thousands and thousands of peaceful people sang, danced, had their kids around. There were some asshole black bloc (NOT the same as antifa) who shoved and punched, but they are anarchist assholes who want any excuse to break shit, much like frat boys at homecoming games (this not to excuse them, but neither to excuse asshole frat boys at homecoming games).

ZERO incidents of people drawing firearms and shooting at protestors, as the pro-Confederate and neo-Nazi guy did at C'ville. No libruls driving cars into crowds. The occasional "I want to get home so I'm going to hooooonk" jerks, though.

In a local Redmond QFC parking lot I spotted an odd taped "hood ornament ", some guy had used reflective tape to make about a 3 inch swastika on his Honda Civic.

So much rain. No power since Saturday evening. The ducks are loving the new stream in the backyard.

Stay safe! Footage from Houston is horrifying.

Too late to be dry. Everything smells musty. But we didn't have problems
Yeah, Houston looks terrible. Though I did read that to some extent drainage is working as planned. They may not have planned for this much at once, but channeling water into streets and highways was preferable to letting it get into homes. Feel worse for the smaller towns like Rockport.

Don't know who remembers my little stoush with a nearby building over a fence? Well, today it came down.

Nuclear war could not have dampened my mood...

Our first ducks were fascinated by the cat, too. They'd gather at the window if she was on the sill, in case she was about to make a papal proclamation.

Not MY locale, but: My father, who lives on the east coast of Florida, ON the Intracoastal waterway, has decided to ride Hurricane Irma out at his home. I am so frustrated with him right now. He's basing his decision on the last hurricane to hit his area, a much weaker storm. Oh, well, nothing to do now but hope.

Hideously Unnatural
I wish him luck. We're not directly on the west coast - probably 20 miles as the crow flies, but there is no good bug-out destination that's not less than 200 miles through jammed-up interstate.

We're planning on staying. I'm going to discuss with the wife if we should do metal hurricane shutters - there is still availability at a nearby home improvement center. We have so many windows and sliding glass doors though, it's going to be impossible to get full coverage.
