What a journey.
tomierna,
first Ive heard of it. I'm not glowing yet.
I have seen a dramatic increase in military helicopters. I even snapped a photo with my phone the other night.

I am sending this to others. One guy works for power company in region and he is a consultant to Europe, too. So, he gets around. Another, active military in area.

Three rare chinooks just above tree line in our neighborhood this week.

Plenty of other links I see right now around the web of indiana explosions, radiation and plenty of helicopters and such. shrug. who knows?
The copters look like the ones I photographed. But as would any string of chinooks.

It didn't show on my radar, har har.

Honestly, I guess it happened last month, but I didn't know anything of it. That's pretty far south east of my daily commute.

The video was interesting, and I'm glad NATO forces exist.

Hey, JK, what kind of 3D printer were you guys using for your prototyping?

johnny k – June 15, 2012 04:10AM Reply Quote
Dimension for the hard stuff, Objet PolyJet for the soft stuff. Redeye is a good place to get the fancy stuff done, though it may not be as cheap as Shapeways.

If you're interested in buying a 3D printer, my general advice is don't - it's an immature and rapidly improving area. Models are generally brittle, the software sucks, and the good hardware is very expensive, and prices are coming down quickly. If you want to tinker, I'm told the UP! is both high-resolution and cheap, and Cubify Cube is decent too. But I'd find a lasercutter much more useful.

I'm not planning on buying one... I was curious because my girlfriend just accepted a job with the company that makes Dimension.

I wonder if they have employee discounts. Heh.

They also own Redeye, where we get our soft prototypes done. Much cheaper and more versatile for one-offs than buying a printer. Now, if you can get a discount there, that'd be interesting.

Good News: New MacBook Pro waiting for me at home.
Bad News: This week, and the next few, look to be heading for massive overtime at work. Little time to set up, use new MBP.

My girlfriend's dog is 12 years old. She got him when he was 7 weeks old. I've known them for 2 1/2 years.

He's had various health problems over the last couple of years but last week he developed an acute case of ascites (aka abdominal dropsy). On Tuesday, the vet tapped off 460cc of peritoneal fluid to make him more comfortable but that was, essentially, just a brief delay of the inevitable... it gave us and her family some time to say goodbye.

I had the unpleasant responsibility to call the vet this morning to schedule an appointment. He will be leaving us tomorrow night.

Now I just hope nobody stops by my desk for a while until I can regain my composure.

It's so hard to say goodbye to a dog.

We got a Bichon a few years ago. I'd been against the move because of my allergies, but as time has passed I've come to realize that the main reason for my opposition was that I don't want to have to lose another dog. (My first dog died more than thirty years ago, but I guess I never got over it.)

With any luck, I'll pre-decease the Bichon.

My thoughts are with you, CS.

What a journey.
A 24 year old coworker who had battled cancer, seemed to be doing better, took his life Monday. No idea if it was health related or that was a factor. Sad to see a young guy do that.

So sorry, CS. Losing a dog is terrible. My girlfriend has a 14 year old golden mutt (named Chewbacca, or Chewie--I knew I'd found a special woman as soon as she told me that) who has had health problems and who is bound to go soon. It's going to be awful--both her kids are younger than the dog and have never known life without him.

Very sorry about your co-worker, Bill.

And he's gone. I knew it was going to be hard but it was far worse than I imagined.
