I'm half serious about selling an ebooklet on this someday so I can stop repeating myself. :) We gave some advice to the Pebble guys, and now I can say, ask them:

If you have any specific questions, ask away. The most important thing for success is the same as it ever was: a product that people really want.

That's why I'm proceeding with my kickstarter plan for a solid gold cube, 1 mile on a side. Everybody wants one, though the start-up is proving costly.

Thanks! I'm wondering how small it could go, so I could fund a developer for this iPhone game.

And JW: I'm waiting for the smaller version. I live in an upstair apartment.

ddt, might want to read: http://penny-arcade.com/report/editorial-article/the-ugly-side-of-kickstarter-why-the-risks-in-backing-gaming-campaigns-are-
tl;dr: games are expensive and hard to do well, and we'll see if any actually fulfill the promise. (Could say this about hardware...)

True, but this is really a small, small thing that's as much a portfolio/experience project as anything else. It's even below the level of Draw Something (text, no interaction, no scoring, but could be fun). Seriously, the IA chart for the whole thing is under two pages.

Do you have the dev lined up? I've seen market rate for really good ones is $150/hr. Make sure you take your overall expected costs and multiply it by 2 or 3. Do the same with time.

Thanks, good advice. No, I've asked around, largely to silence. Would actually like a student to do this, if possible.

Let me know if you have the time and I'll email pdfs to show you the mockup and IA.

What a journey.
Just got a note from school that my 13 year old son got 610 on SAT math. He thought that was good.
My son is strange. I can tell that he 'sees' math. He has a hard time being interested in it, though.
Anyway ... proud daddy.
I'm glad he knows math, because I told him I will require 10% of his income to make up for his leisurely digs here at Smith Manor. LOL

So if he makes $0...?

(On a train that's left Chicago heading SSE at an average speed of 57mph, of course.)

Software patents are controversial of course. But some interesting database patents have been filed by FileMaker.

Tom, are these kids anywhere in your area of FLA? You gotta book them for the next event you produce.

They are about 1hr south of me. They're neat!

Kind of a special purpose musical guest, though. They aren't going to get many bookings at the RNC for instance :)

Yeah, I wouldn't want to trivialize those kids' accomplishment! (rimshot)

JW, I'd attend for that.
