It would be totally irresponsible, but seeing this car makes my mouth water.

Straight from a Tarantino movie.

What a journey.
Reminds me of a Mercury Capri (82-ish) interior. And a bit Dodge Stealth, too.

We had an E Class M-B. Loved the car, hated the expense of the upkeep. Then, before kids came, switched from that to minivan.

My 1979 200 is in dire need of body work. Last winter has really taken its toll, rust is everywhere. I'll get the car some maintenance next week, it hasn't seen a shop since spring 2008. But boy, did MB make cars in that time. They're indestructible.

Then why maintain it?

It's getting difficult to get it started when it's cold, I suspect it's the choke that doesn't work quite right because of a leak in the vacuum. After 30 years rubber becomes a little porous...

Someone help me. I've developed an unhealthy obsession with the old Jaguar XJS.

Seriously.

I can't stop looking at listings on Craigslist and Ebay. I have to have one.

I'm pretty much convinced that I will be buying one once I'm back in the States.

I know it's a bad idea. Somebody talk me out of it.

Somebody talk me out of it.

Go ahead and get it. I'm sure you don't get enough of the "it's broken, I have to fix it" in your day-to-day travails...

It obviously wouldn't be a daily driver. I've had my Miata for over 7 years now and I've put less than 10,000 miles on it. The Jag would probably be driven less than that.

You can pick them up for less than $4k.

Well, if you do, look for or DO the chevy small block conversion.

Damn. So much for using reverse psychology on you... :-D

Cloudscout. The very reason they're only 4K is that they're very beautiful pieces of rubbish. That said; go ahead and get one.

That's absolutely true. They're gorgeous pieces of rubbish.

If I was in the States right now, I would buy this instead.

I think you'd probably happy lighting a stack of 20 dollar bills on fire.

Seriously the build quality is terrible, a neighbor growing up had the flat bed tow truck in their drive so often I think that got more miles on it than the actual car.

Goofy electronics that were not even standard, so that reordering parts was a routine part of the repair process.

Criminally bad visibility and ergonomics that really make it unsafe to drive in-town where a pedestrian or bicycle (or the whole Tour d' France...) could be in your blind spot as you swerve right into to.

Of course they are nearly pretty enough to make up for that, which is way you want one, but like drooling over the SI Swimsuit Issue in real life things that pretty are never very much fun...

Well, my stay in India lasts three more months. Maybe I'll lose interest in that time.

Does this count as irony? I just remembered that Jaguar is now an Indian company.
