So, when do you expect to see the next 21-slot G5 subnotebook with built-in antigravity? Or do you have other things to complain about regarding the Mac rum0rz press?

This could be big. There have been rumors about Valve's recent hiring of hardware engineering talent, and of an upcoming Valve console of some sort.

In the last few years Valve has ported a number of its games to Mac OS X, and made Steam available on the Mac.

Of course, this could all turn out to be nothing. BUT IT HAD BETTER NOT!

Apple has enough $$$ to buy Red?

That would be cool.

I would love to think that Apple could do something at a price I would be willing to pay. But I doubt it.

I'd just be happy with unfettered access to all of the features that my phone could offer if only the carrier wasn't running interference between me and Apple.

Agreed. I can see your point.
Apple runs the risk of anti-trust if they vertically-integrate too much, imo. But allowing Samsung/HTC etc to have a good chunk of the cell phone pie, helps fend some of this off.

Well, usually I'd say more competition is good. And it strikes me as something Steve would do (were he here).

All the telcos are effectively "CompUSA's" (in terms of shitty customer service) - and that's what inspired the Apple stores.

Apple to purchase German HDTV manufacturer?

Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Button!

(Sorry, everybody.)

Have you seen German variety TV shows? No need to go back in history to evoke a horror.

Nice look. Of course, in my house, this would just reveal a whole lot of wires and some wood panelling.

Well, this sounds legit. I'm a little concerned. A graphics card with, say, 20% more power that has to push twice as many pixels? I'm sure Apple wouldn't release anything that didn't have decent performance with normal apps but, as always, I worry about games. Oh, well, if it has a discrete video card, I'll buy it anyway.

I think for games they'll assume you're happy to play it at 1080p resolution to get decent fps. How realistic does it have to be?

Setting LCD's to anything other than their native resolution introduces a lot of fuzziness automatically. Maybe the retina's won't be that way, but I doubt it.

>How realistic does it have to be?

More pixels than maximum possible human optical resolution. And then some more, in case I become superhuman. At 600 fps.

I've found games that are at "standard" iPad2 resolution seem fine on the iPad3 - you don't really notice the fuzziness. But it is a matter of expectations I guess.

Try it with your iMac. I think you'll see quite a difference. Perhaps it's just me.

1. Rescaling generally looks better with video/games than text.
2. Pixels on the iPad 3 are 1/4 the size of those on the iPad 2, so "pixel doubled" items on the iPad 3 should have the same visual clarity as native items on the iPad 2.
