Polished up my grammar a bit...

Since there was no real thread for useless but nonetheless
interesting links I thought I'd create one.

In America, the only respectable form of socialism is socialism for the rich.
4 weeks and 13 holidays here... and I can manage to very unofficially telecommute at times.

That and the fact that I choose to live in Maine where the prospects aren't that plentiful (they exist but ...) are the only reasons I'm still here after 10 years!

Yeah, looks like I'll be looking for a job in the not so distant future, too. Anywhere that will have me. I have lived here for family ties. But this time my search will not take into account being near family. I have compromised too much for that, and need to go where I want, where I CAN work decent enough and so on. I'd love to work in Europe, though have no idea how one can get a foot in the door, there. This US economy is tanking, in my opinion. But, who knows? If I were a lawyer-type, I'd shrug and see it as opportunity to sue someone I guess.

What a journey.

Oh and here I thought we were supposed to blame people from south of the US border.

The female minister/counselor in that WIfe Swap episode practically live next door to me.

I heard her interviewed on the radio one morning coming into work. She is an author, too.

Angie Boss said that young girl asked her, OFF CAMERA, when she was leaving to return to Indiana "Am I going to be alright?".

She said she worries for the girl.

What a journey.

"Dodgy debts called a structured investment vehicle." John Bird & John Fortune on subprime-loans, hedge funds and SIV?s.

John Bird & John Fortune on the (British) Northern Rock debacle, the credit crisis and bankers.

It's sad to say this, but I hope that in the future it will be harder for folks that can't pay back debts to get loans/credit for non-essential+non-investment (houses, good degrees, etc.) things.

Sorry, but PCs, cars, electronics, etc., and the lure of easy spending has to be curtailed. I know politically, that making a statement that there is in effect a split in the haves/have nots, and that we should NOT strive to allow the lower class to spend and LOOK like upper class is a landmine position.

Okay, don't know how in a free market capitalist system this would ever work, but large corporate mergers, and insane CEO pay MUST BE STOPPED (or reversed).

So, I guess I would not make friends with either side on this, right? ;)

What a journey.

As I said many months back; if the numbers are REALLY big, people tend to believe that it will work. But wait until you try it at home.

I'd say this is definitely a government issue. In the Netherlands advertisements for investment products always need to be accompanied by a standard warning that investing has risks attached and a specific warning about the risk of the advertised product 'low, moderate, high and very high'.

While we don't have the really high 'up-s' in the economy, we don't have the 'downs' either. Last time we had a true recession was in 1981.

We have more warnings than anything else here. But, the investments are not the issue. It's the spending, not saving vehicles.

Okay, it's sad that our society even makes this possible.

w/re to Alicia -- the parents fell out of the ugly tree and then it fell on top of them. that mother looks about as hideous a thing as I can imagine coming out of the 70s. she's fat, uses a lot of makeup in a vain attempt to beautify that mug.

People's sense of what is right, good, or worthwhile in this world is so immensely distorted. It's not just a U.S. thing mind you.

----

w/re to capitalism and pay and fair.

I've long called for curtailing the exorbitant executive pay, the disparity in income ... in this day we think this is right, good, or worthwhile? It is not.
At the very same time this sense of entitlement to wealth, it's a myth as large as the one surrounding 'privacy' -- as a society we can and should determine some level of basic needs. We've evolved far enough haven't we? To at the very least clothe and house the idiots of the world and provide some basic level of humanity??? I mean, GIVEN OUR WEALTH?!

Resource levels are not a problem. Distribution and greed are...
