Polished up my grammar a bit...

Since there was no real thread for useless but nonetheless
interesting links I thought I'd create one.

agree totally. But pragmatically, I need or desire for them to support themselves.
again, agree totally.

I was worried for a moment. I knew I could name all the midwestern states but wasn't sure if I'd be able to identify all 50 states on a blank map. I just tested myself and, yes, I can. Don't ask me to name all of the capitals, though. I'm sure I'd miss a few of those.

My senator, however, can draw a map of the whole country free-hand:

I'm a Midwesterner and deplore the term.

Would you prefer "flyover friend" :-)

(No, seriously - what else do you call someone from the mid-west then?)

I don't lump anyone into any term.

It must be really frustrating to have to call 7 billion people by name.

Why? Do you limit your definition of "people" to a single species?

I have never liked that term. It sounds wrong. we are more great lakes region, imo. Of course, that's a LOT of area.
Nothing West about us. mid or otherwise.

200 years ago when pioneers were expanding the country, pretty much everything that wasn't on the east coast was "The West". If you weren't too far out, you were merely in the mid-west.

I agree it's a stupid, outdated term.

We'll start calling you Central Americans.

JW, you're right. I offer a heartfelt apology to all the corporations out there.

Growing up in CA, I thought Ohio was "the east"... that did not fly when I moved to Boston.
