Polished up my grammar a bit...

Since there was no real thread for useless but nonetheless
interesting links I thought I'd create one.

I know I'm supposed to have Super Duper, but I've successfully restored a borked machine from Time Machine several times now. Tell me the killer reason I need this.

Anyone listen to MGG (Mac Geek Gab) podcast? Aka TMO, the Mac Observer.

They often talk about many finer details of Mac stuff. Including backups, including super duper, et al.
I can at times NOT get past the constant bickering/abuse though. You'd have to listen to understand.

So is super duper way better than Time Machine ?

Well, it's the only thing that got my old laptop's data onto my new laptop. And didn't carry over the Library, system, and hard drive corruption (that is, Disk Utility sees no issues with the new computer, and all permissions seem to be fine).

Bootable backup drives, and incremental backups were the killer features for me.

[EDIT]

Super Duper also copies EVERYTHING, except cache files and files that Apple recommends against backing up. Time Machine, for good reasons, omits system files.

But SD doesn't do a history, so that you can restore to a particular time point. You could fake that, by backing up regularly to discrete disk images, but then you'd lose the "bootable" part of the process.

I use Time Machine (once a week), and Super Duper to alternating external hard disks weekly and, lately, BackBlaze. I don't want to lose the data on that disk.

My first, puerile, internet-accessible musings are about to go away.

Anybody know a free way to access them before they go? [70411,67] wants to know...

I honestly have no idea what's there, probably yapping about my shareware.

I didn't realize they were still there. I was really active in a creative writing one (with some pros) through the offline manager (local store and forward - talk about convenient!)) I wonder if the group survived to this point...

Fascinating and enlightening primer on bitcoin... at least for my stupid brain.

So, who here are into bitcoin? Which iOS/MacOS stuff should I know/do?

johnny k – December 02, 2017 07:14AM Reply Quote
Easiest way to get into it seems to get on Coinbase and buy some. I don't know about the lesser currencies, but there's no way you're going to generate any significant bitcoin computationally now. I'm thinking about buying a small amount, but the completely ungrounded nature of the price is ridiculous.

the audio I linked to says a LOT of bitcoin transactions are for less than above board stuff. And the guy in that podcast is kinda like the defecto MARKETING and PRESS RELEASE people.. and HE SAYS it's full of things that go against some countries' and states' current laws. And since all transactions are on a PUBLIC balance sheet, everyone can SEE that/those. So, not trying to HIDE those transactions.

Due to an odd typo, my office has a Secret Satan this year. Should make the holidays more colorful.
