Polished up my grammar a bit...
Since there was no real thread for useless but nonetheless
interesting links I thought I'd create one.

Vernors and Michiganders.... I was exposed to this weird cult while at college. Vile, disgusting!

Well, if Romney's a teetotaller he might have difficulty winning the so-called "I'd rather have a beer with" crowd that won Bush the 2004 election.
Why aren't more people completely freaked out by his Mormon beliefs? Almost as nutty as scientology...

Tony, we like to think we don't discriminate based on someone's religion.
Though, to be more realistic about, it... Have you MET the
"regular christians" in contemporary America???

Mr. Cooper, I can't remember if you teach criminal or not. If so...

Dammit,
Spent the last hour reading that.

Now I know the rationale behind why armed robbers get charged with murder if one of their conspirators is shot by the cops...

I like Vernors. Didn't realize when I was growing up that it's a regional thing - my dad's from Minnesota and dadgumit that's what we drank when we drank ginger ale. I like putting Nestea powder in it - creates a zesty head and gives it an extra bite. Or something.
I don't see how Mormon beliefs are any nuttier than other religions, just because it's specific about heaven being a planet rather than "in the sky."

I can't recommend enough Krakauer's "Under the Banner of Heaven". It doesn't work against Mr. K's argument that it's no nuttier than any other religion (though the golden plates and special glasses, etc., would make for great Amazing Sci Fi pulp reading); it's just a compelling piece of narrative non-fiction.
But back to the more important topic: Vernor's. That was my mom's fave when I was a kid (sugar-free, with cyclamates). I kind of like (the sugar-free) version that seems to be working its way back into the NorCal market. There's a spicy regional ginger ale in South Carolina that kicks serious ass, though.

Unless you're an atheist or a Muslim. Then you're unelectable.

What are you talking about? We elected Obama, and he's both.

Nope, I focus on civil law, not criminal law--which is too bad, because that book looks like fun. Much too straightforward, though--I can't have my students actually
understanding what they're assigned to read.

I said we _like_ to think that. I didn't say we _actually_ think that. As subtext has become text lately, christianity has become the assumed "norm" (and only a specific subset/definition of it).

Oh, no worries, Tony! I thought I was extending the joke. I'm not bitter with you, but at my compatriots.
In other news: is anyone else still teaching, aside from Mr. Cooper?
