For all your work woes.

So it was another division of the same company that recently let you go?

They haven't actually let me go yet.

My "Impact Date" is next Wednesday. I have until then to find another internal position. If I don't, then they will lay me off.

Today was not a good day. There are 3 internal positions that I was still in the running for this morning.

One of them has been in process for over a month and the hiring manager just hasn't come to a decision yet.

Another one looked very promising but today I was told that it was being put on hold so it was no longer a viable option within my short timeframe.

I had a second interview this afternoon for the third position and I guess I'm not a good fit.

I'm just... really depressed right now.

Sorry, CS. I hope that first position works out for you.

I don't like this roller coaster.

The head of HR just called me. She's really nice and even though this isn't specifically her area of responsibility, she's been making an effort to help me out here and there. She asked if I would still be interested in the California position if she could somehow arrange to get the relocation paid for.

I understand that it must be agonizing, but it's nice that somebody's willing to exert themselves on your behalf.

Exactly. This has to be encouraging. Sorry you're having such a frustrating time.

Plenty of people in relatively high-level positions have been trying to help me out which makes it that much more frustrating that nothing has panned out yet.

The woman who interviewed me yesterday emailed me this morning saying that she shopped my resume around to the leads in her org and they were "very excited". She even forwarded the email chain between some of them discussing a desire to talk to me ASAP.

But nobody has contacted me yet.

That's what happens when you include a tasteful nude photo with your resume.

Coffee, screen, wipe...

Hang in there, CS!

I'm not running for office.

Do these people understand that you've got a deadline to be hired by? Or is bureaucracy that thick? Good luck, though. Obviously, you're pretty damn desirable and will not have too much trouble finding work one way or another. I mean, you're not an auto worker here.

Good luck CS, I'm sure it'll work out one way or the other.

Yesterday, the recruiter told me that the position I have been waiting for a decision on for over a month was going to be decided by the end of the day.

This morning the guy sent me a meeting invite for tomorrow morning. That doesn't sound good to me. If they were going to give me the job, I would think they'd just want to tell me rather than drag it out another day for a formal meeting.

Hrm.

It's not my life, but if you feel you have nothing to lose, just demand an immediate answer or you rescind your interest. Put a little power back on your side. I hate that they're all dicking around with your future.

My wife just quit her nursing job at a prison after a couple of weeks. It was her first RN job and she was thrown to the wolves. Not nearly as much training as she asked for and was promised, and then put in charge of less educated but more experienced nurses who were hostile and barely cooperative to her, so she couldn't learn anything. She's tough and dedicated (actually enjoys the inmates), but didn't need the job - she's got a year left before she's a nurse practitioner - just wanted the experience. She's much happier now.

The meeting was with the hiring manager and his boss. His boss wanted a chance to interview me himself. It was supposed to be 30 minutes. It ended up running a full hour. It went very, very well.

He had a lot of questions and I think I had the answers he was looking for.

The bad news is, I may not get their final answer until Monday but I'm extremely confident now. I have no doubt whatsoever that I'm the right person for the job and I think they're convinced of that now, too.

Great news CS.

JK, sorry to hear that about your wife's work experience. It's unfortunately very common in the nursing industry. In Australia as part of the RN degree they even do a public awareness course about workplace bullying in the nursing industry because there is so much hostility toward new grads.

johnny k – June 24, 2011 04:19PM Reply Quote
I'll pass that on. I think being a state job in a stressful environment contributed to their attitude as well.

Tony Leggett (Moderator) – June 24, 2011 05:06PM Reply Quote
I should qualify that with YMMV. Some hospitals are better than others - some of the bigger ones have a year long graduate induction process which is certainly friendlier.
