Of course Pillsbury is a customer of ours. Now they don't have enough profits to buy new computers from us. So now I can't afford any flour for MY kids....
Fine. May I direct you to
this?

My colleague was contrite today. So I retract the "bat-shit insane" comment. We'll go with "temporarily bat-shit insane" instead.

I have been on a conference call for 6 1/2 hours now. Most of it has been spent waiting for people to do very basic tasks... things that should take 3 minutes are taking 25 minutes. It's ridiculous.
On the plus side, I'm rather impressed by the battery life on my cordless phone. It lasted for the first 5 1/2 hours before I had to put it back on the charger and switch to a different handset.

I hate work. Is that why it's not called laying around on your ass?

One of my fond memories of the late sitcom "That 70's Show," was Red Foreman explaining to his son that he was supposed to hate work. "That's why it's called 'Work,' not 'Skippedy-doo' or 'Happy Fun Time.'"

What a journey.
Well, I met with 'work' yesterday. Things went well. They are what appears to be genuinely concerned that I might be coming back too soon. And they are willing to let me come back and work as little or as much, from home or office, etc. as I need to.
I am shooting for two weeks from now, part time, from home. My wife is also concerned, it seems. Since I told her the above, she just has this "I'm concerned" look. Hadn't seen it before. But I guess now that it's REALLY going to happen, she's thinking about how it will run me down, a bit, I think.

Good news, Bill, especially if they're really willing to let you go at your own pace.

Show of hands:
As anyone NOT gotten a statement from your management chain to the effect of "continued deterioration and volatility has forced us to revisit possible staff reductions"???
OT1H I appreciate the 'heads up', but WTF -- is anybody living under a rock and thinking that hundreds of millions of loses and sinking share prices is NOT going to cause the execs to rethink some shit? And what, we stiffs down here in worker-land (albeit highly compensated knowledge workerland...) can't do much to spin straw into gold... Do the big wigs think maybe that the less happy will jump on their own? Oh wait, there is NO PLACE to jump to...
Flustered.

Team of 9 employees and 3 contractors just became team of 9 + 2.
Fortunately I am one of the employees, but all of the contractors have more "time on the team" than me, so when the next round comes 'round...
