For all your work woes.

I wonder if that's why I could never make it as an academic. Or maybe it's my stupefying ignorance. Although that IS how a number of my electrical engineering courses were taught.

Trust me, stupefying ignorance is no obstacle to academic success.

If they're froshmen, I can cover for you. I remember my biz law 101 or whatever.

Or ask former Rep. Do(spacetofoolgoogle)ug Kin(space)ser. He's down on the canal. Very close by. Don't mention my name, though. :)

He's a Democrat, too. In case that matters. ;)

Response removed as it seemed to me that it might seem to cast aspersions on Sporkers in the academic field, which was not its intent.

I was expecting layoffs today but there weren't any. There will probably be some in five weeks, though.

Thanks. There was a big meeting this morning where they basically gave us the Dread Pirate Roberts treatment.

"Good work. Sleep well. I'll most likely kill you in the morning."

And that's Anderson, err Accenture? Or Best Buy's use of Accenture?
Hopefully you'll be spared. I just stopped in Circuit City. Waaaaay before all this happened, their PC guy always seemed like a career CC kinda guy to me. He's still there helping them close the place up. I feel sad for him on many levels. I bought nothing.
GOOD LUCK CS!

Ah, the joys of job security.

To all our faithful employers:

Thank you for not being so incompetent as our competition, which we have vanquished.

We are constantly monitoring market conditions and will throw you under the bus whenever we feel that is a better option than paying you.

Of course we know that if we and our peers in the Moneyed Elite that have milked the globe for oh these many years continued to throw employees under the bus we may get to the point where the hordes will scale the walls of our gated enclaves, which is why we want to remind you that new high resolution ID badges and security cameras are the only approved IT expenditure for the coming year.

Your cooperation is appreciated!

Sincerely,

Your Evil Overlords.

This reminds me of a mostly inconsequential thing I did yesterday. Instead of buying a cheap brand of flour like Pillsbury or the store brand, I bought King Arthur, because a) I already had used it and liked it, and b) it was 100% employee-owned. The company's been around for over 200 years(!), and I don't know if it's really just that the "employees" who own it are the executive team (though that's still better than another layer of separation from stockholders). Is this just feel-good, the-least-I-can-do consumer "activism"? I want to know how to be a responsible consumer. I feel like supporting guys like this, or Oberweis Dairy, knowing that some goods are the cheapest because there's a human cost in their production.

Well, I bought both King Arthur's flour (using it tonight to make some swiss bread) AND Oberweis milk last week.

Hideously Unnatural
I think most corporations would do better if they were completely employee-owned. That's hard to seek out sometimes, though.

Trying to tamp down a dispute with a colleague who is, how you say, bat-shit insane. Serves me right for trying to help. Sigh.

There are 14 people on my team.

1 person is on vacation.
1 person is home with a sick kid.
6 people are at work.
The remaining 6 of us have come down with pneumonia.

WTF?!

It's bad this year; I can only imagine it's worse in Minnesota. I had a nasty flu/strep bout a few weeks ago, now it's a cold that's killing me.

Fine. Of course Pillsbury is a customer of ours. Now they don't have enough profits to buy new computers from us. So now I can't afford any flour for MY kids....

If you boil them, you won't need to roll them in flour before cooking.

But they come out so much crispier when given a nice dusting and then plunged into the hot oil...
