May you live in interesting times. At least this time seems minor compared to your uncertain upheavals of the past.

Oh, yeah, the only real consequence for me is that any feeling of stability I'd built up is gone. It's more interesting from a political point of view: the king has died heirless, the nobles are raising armies, and the peasants are keeping their heads down.

In the USSR troikas usually lasted until one member gathered enough power to oust the others.
Watch to see if they always enter and leave meetings in alphabetical order ;-)

They don't tell me where they meet, either. I'm beginning to think that they don't love me.

Hammer fell/falling again. about one quarter of my team/group got notified they are/will be leaving. Not sure of the aftermath of any other groups at this time. It usually takes a few days to disseminate.

Thanks John. It's just the matter of another "Suck it up and do more work because you were not fired" phase.
They have gone past the level of cuts that have affected quality of services. I am grateful and dismayed at the same time.

I love I.T. ! working on-call. doing crap to UNIX servers I have no clue; just following script/steps.
In the middle, my son gets back at 1:45 am from school/drum-competition out of state.
Crazy day. And mom gets released from hospital. she is NOT well....but going into rehab....
can't wait to sleep.

I just had to WDE my desktop - and I found that HP has decided to stop calling TPM 'TPM' in the BIOS.... that was fun tracking down what they had decided to rename it to :-/

13 months ago my boss was on vacation and HIS boss was also on vacation. In order to avoid a delay of even a couple of days, they ended up having the manager of a different department who happened to be a complete stranger to us meet with us one-on-one to let us know we were being laid off.

I've hashed out the details of the ensuing chaos here already... the end result is that I managed to secure a new role as the head of a different department roughly 45 minutes before my exit interview was to happen.

Fast-forward 13 months.

I'm currently on vacation. I decided to turn off my work email accounts on my phone while on vacation so I could relax. A few hours ago, one of my team members sent me a text message that asked if I had seen the email that our HR department sent at 5:00 today. He wouldn't have asked me if it wasn't something important so I went and checked it.

We're all getting fired.

And by "we" I mean the client is firing our employer. For almost a year now they have been going through the process of getting bids from several companies relating to the various infrastructure capabilities. Apparently they decided that my employer would not be selected for any of the capability areas for which they submitted bids.

Unlike last time where we were given 4 weeks notice, this time it will be much longer. I've been told that we will stay on through the holiday season while they work out the transition plan.

Fabulous news to get in the middle of my vacation.

Sorry, CS, a terrible way to notify people. I'm glad that you get plenty of time to line up something else.
