Let me first state that I am glad I have a job in this the time of economic trouble.
Yet again this week marks another all-too-common career dead-end action.
Let me state for the second time that I am blessed to have my job.
This situation goes something like this:
For the last 15 years, 8 months and 19 days (who's counting?) ....
1. I get put or moved to a new team
2. boss is at the same or one pay grade level above me - so there's no way s/he will promote me to THEIR OWN level, right?
3. boss gets promoted once or twice or thrice, opening up what appears to be a nice slot to or three for succession management opportunities
4. corporate or department crisis which involves a organizational restructuring
5. Go to step 1.
I re-booted to step 1 again this week. My boss is at the same level as me. So, boss will need two promotions before I can likely see one. Which would make that somewhere in the 17 years + range since most recent promotion.
This has happened time and again.
