For all your work woes.

Bruce, I was some of everything at a company that provided technology to "media and entertainment". Mostly capex stuff to this point (and it showed when the downturn hit).

Skills wise, my most recent tasks ranged from getting the company website revamped to writing a significant amount of the marketing materials for NAB, to being a backstop to our Operations operation, to managing vendor contracts, and more.

Basically, exec management with a twist.

John, yikes! That is ugly.

I hear you. Sorry man. You know, the forum really needs you to put in more posts over the coming month, J-Will. :)

Just don't tell anybody you're a Filemaker developer. Not everybody's experience I guess but no end to opportunity.

I guess it's a good thing I'm not (yet). My DB experience is MySQL...

I've been putting in 50 to 60 hour work weeks for months, trying to get a game ready to ship. Last week I was sick and on antibiotics and only put in 8 hour days through Wednesday. Thursday, my team leader came by my cube and told me that "we" would really have to knuckle down and put in more effort. In trying to inspire me, he managed to both show that my previous effort was utterly unnoticed and unappreciated and that 60 hours a week with reduced benefits, no raise, no overtime, and no bonus was not enough of a contribution. FML.

Did you tell him that, JW?

(perhaps more tactfully but I think you should)

I basically told him that I've already "gone to eleven," and that there weren't any more notches that I could kick it up to. I didn't really have the high moral ground, because I have been stuck on two significant bugs (written by other people) for a week and had no progress to report. Other than the ruin of my personal life, of course.

I know it's a crappy situation to be stuck in, P, but from what I've been hearing, the IT job market has actually been improving significantly over the last 18 months or so.

I had an interesting phone call with my boss on Friday. He thanked me for all of my hard work here in India and told me that I literally saved his job. He said that he would have been sacked last week if it wasn't for me.

Thanks for the commiseration folks. Since I don't currently have anything lined up that isn't unpaid self-employment, leads are appreciated. The hunt starts in earnest on Monday.

I can say similar to Cloudscout. The IT services sector has been doing pretty well, at least in the Bay Area. If you have some time, you can try signing up for E-Lance. Their might be some stuff on there you can do in the interim while you search for local stuff.

Sorry Porruka.

Tomorrow the big hammer falls at work. It won't be pretty.

If it's hammer time, you could come in wearing Mjolnir Cyborg suits, complete with weaponry...

Ok. I'm cornfused. Not many people walking out the door since Monday. Either a very stealthy firing plan, or our site has really been spared the large part of the cuts.

Should we look for DHS to up the threat level?

(and if by installation you mean pink slips for all, my heart goes out to you and the others. On the bright side I am getting lots more requests from recruiters that have stuff. Good Luck!)
