I also haven't been able to keep up with the license changes either.
I would say go with the free blogger edition. If you have to step up to the open source developer version for features, the database transfers pretty nicely

Ah, so I can go for MT Pro "blogger" and upgrade to the open-source version pretty easily?
The only thing that worries me is whether multiple authors can use the free blogger edition (there'd be maybe 4 or 5 contributors, maybe more)

Hmmm... the blogger version does indeed seem to be the way to go and given the w3c uses it for their forums it can't be too bad with standards compliance.
There just seems to be an alarming lack of documentation about ensuring compliance on the moveable type website.

The free pro blogger version -- yes that's the one. I don't think it's an upgrade to developer version as for me it has fewer built-in features!

OK, who here has got stuck on a "403 Forbidden You don't have permission to access /cgi-bin/mt/mt.cgi on this server." error when installing MT?
I chmoded all the cgi files to 755 (hell, I even tried 777).

Insure the mt directory is in the proper cgi script location ... usually an ISP has only one place these are allowed to run, typically at /cgi-bin/ but other times different.

Hey Rino,
With the blog you put up a while back (http://learn.bowdoin.edu/sociology/soc022/blogs/) how did you get it to default to .shtml rather than .html? There's an option for the archives but that's not it, is it?
And maybe I'm missing something but how do you make it use php?

I was able to work run it using Terminal. I am not sure what had to be installed.
Downloaded to desktop
started terminal
in terminal
cd Desktop
tar -xzvf swampy.1.1.tgz
cd swampy.1.1
python AmoebaWorld.py

i have already left for the day and plan on getting wasted in short order, but why is it so hard to get perl to recognize where iconv is? I downloaded libiconv and compiled correctly. However, I cannot for the life of me get the Text::Iconv perl module to compile. It keeps saying it can't find iconv. Fuck that shit in the goat ass.

That's one of the reasons I now avoid movable type - it requires perl. If you can get away with just php - why complicate it with perl as well?
