Helpful way to bypass the queue; haven't tried myself yet.

Found where it's at!
Updating an original iPad went well last night. The only hitch was getting the last step going. ITunes had a dialog box up for restoring apps, but the iPad had gone to black screen. Turns out that I had to set a few preferences first, which I discovered only by unlocking the screen prior to disconnecting. The whole restore process then finished without a hitch.

MacBook Pro, iPad, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS all updated without a hitch last night/this morning. Mail seems to be a bit erratic but otherwise iCloud basics OK, still fiddling with music..

Got new phone. AT&T activation servers have failed. Another release, DOA.

Do they do this on purpose?

Can't make AT&T buy servers that they'll only need two days a year. They don't buy into Steve's user experience philosophies. All Apple can do is to try to spread the load over multiple carriers.

My Sprint 4S is working fine so far, but between the new phone, iCloud, my MacBook Pro, and our media center, I have no idea what's syncing when, where, or why right now.

Thinking of finally ditching my pre-Cambrian era phone for an iPhone 4S.

Would be interested to hear how well Siri does text messages, dials numbers etc...

According to the article iOS5 might nuke all your kindle eBooks. Not the app, just the books you've downloaded to, well, make the kindle app actually useful...

Only if you're pushing your memory limit. But it is still disturbing not to be able to rely on your data. Maybe Amazon will update and allow you to "lock" books, moving them to your permanent Documents folder.

It sums up what I don't like about "the cloud" - my personal data is at the mercy of commercial third parties.

At least this is data that is replaceable... with an internet connection, at least.

Any suggestions for a decent 4S case? I want something with a back, that rises (slightly) above the front of the phone (but doesn't cover it), doesn't have to be snapped together, doesn't cover any ports, and has a texture that won't slip out of my hand or get stuck in my pocket.

A friend of mine recommends http://www.speckproducts.com/iphone-case/iphone-4-case.html -- I'm curious what people think of these.

That "slip-proof" but "slip into pocket" sounds like a tough balance.

What a journey.
yeah, about like a condom that feels good.

So are there any, er, well-lubricated iPhone bumpers? Something that'd add a little drop protection while still being slippery enough to be readily pocketable?

Yeah, that's why I'm afraid to buy one without touching it first - unless it comes with a really good recommendation. I always felt fine using my 3GS without a case, but the glass back on the 4S is much slicker, and there's no border covering the glass edge if I accidentally drop it. That said, my phone has replaced my watch, and I don't want to struggle with my pocket every time I decide to check the time. I like the look of this case, but the reviews say the docking area has problems with third party cables (I use black ones to connect with my car stereo because I think Apple's white ones look goofy with my black interior).

I like the look of some of the replacement backs I've seen for sale.
