Actually, the worst omission is Voice Dialing.

Second would be the lack of Video Recording.

A2DP would come in third. This is something that will be useful in the next year or so as more car stereos support A2DP. All current Windows Mobile devices support it.

(By the way, I got an 8GB iPhone today)

A couple of problems with the iPhone so far...

1) Using self-signed certificates for my IMAP server is a seriously painful ordeal.
2) I stopped biting my fingernails again about 6 weeks ago. I'm going to have to keep them trimmed really short now in order to improve my touch-screen typing accuracy.

In America, the only respectable form of socialism is socialism for the rich.
MMS I don't get, not when you have a full email client. You can even send it off to to flickr.

It's more for receiving than anything else. Every time one of my luddite friends sends me a message from their RAZR, I can't see it on my phone. You are sent to a website where you can view the message, but since it is in flash, you can't view it on your phone. And since I can't forward my text messages to e-mail, I can't even copy and paste the string they give me to open the file.

The Optus iPhone plan has supposedly been leaked:

looks like they got an angry call from Optus saying they're wrong.

Oh good. those plans did look a bit steep.

I think at this point the limiting factor of the iPhone is the wheeling and dealing with the telcos. Sure visual voicemail is nice and all, but the people I know don't even listen to voicemail anymore, they just call back to the person who's call they missed. So, Apple could also make a model unlocked that doesn't have those features.

If Apple would just sell the phone to anyone on the planet unlocked, competition between telcos would increase a whole lot, since people would just pick the 'iPhone plan' that's the most competitive. I don't need subsidy when I pay the subsidy back in 3 months time with the subscription. How expensive is the iPhone without the subsidy, 300 - 400 dollars?

Well, it turns out that the iPhone without subsidy costs €499 for the 8 Gb model and €599 for the 16 Gb model.

Apparently most people call with a prepaid card in Italy, making this the most viable option there.

"While Apple does give a wide range of pricing options, pricing is restricted to between $0.99 to $999.99 with increments ranging of $1 to $100 depending on relative price differences."

think that range should cover at least the first generation of apps... maybe adobe will port creative suite 4 for the iphone.

anyone here have the sdk? we should totally cook up some minimalist app and ask $999.99 for it, just to see the reaction.

I actually bit the bullet tonight and ponied up my $99 for the developer program.

Installing the latest dev tools now after which I'll be updating the firmware on my phone.

Wow.

For all my criticisms of Microsoft, I've actually felt that their current implementation of Windows Mobile (especially with respect to Exchange ActiveSync) was pretty well polished.

Saying that the bar has been raised would be an understatement. The iPhone's implementation is so far ahead of Windows Mobile... it's unbelievable.

Again, wow.

Great, not only doesn't 2.0 support A2DP, it breaks support for many handsfree profile devices (like my Uniden Cordless Phone at home).

Wow. Safari is really unstable on this thing. It crashes a lot.

Not good news. One of the things I was hoping for was an improved browsing experience with Safari. Not only does Safari take an inordinately long time to load certain pages and crash a fair bit, but I'm constantly accidentally hitting links while I'm trying to scroll. Very frustrating.

In general, the 2.0 firmware seems slower. I'm hoping this gets ironed out before July 11th.

I haven't had a problem with Safari crashing on my iphone, and this is with almost a year of use.

It would be interesting to see more detailed data on your experience: Is it crashing on the same pages or sites? Can you ever get the pages to load? Etc.

Might be worth doing a restore.

EDIT: I should clarify: I've had Safari crash on me a few times, but it's very rare.

One page that crashes consistently is on the At&T Wireless site. If I open the page to shop for "all phones" it will often crash while I'm scrolling around the page.

Here's a link to the page that I was able to crash Safari with several times.

I just got it to crash again on that page by changing from portrait to landscape and back.
