Anyone up for an A/V project? I'd love to see how close real-world use of the iPhone 4S with Siri could come to a shot-for-shot remake of the Knowledge Navigator:

That is one big-ass, fancy study for a college professor.

I'm ordering tomorrow morning but am still struggling with the AT&T/Verizon choice. I've had little luck finding anyone with experience with both around here. More generally, the consensus seems to be that Verizon is (much?) better for calls and that AT&T is (marginally?) better for data. I probably use 3G on my phone at least as much as I make calls, and at the moment I'm inclined to go with the devil I know. Can anyone persuade me differently?

I constantly use the making calls while using data feature, so I stick with ATT, plus I am grandfathered in with unlimited data.

I'm in: 32 GB with Apple Care+. Not cheap, but I can't think of anything I own that gets more use than my phone (and yes, maybe that's kind of sad). Thanks, Mokers, for reminding me that Verizon doesn't do simultaneous calls and data--I don't use it all that often, but it's nice to have. And I'm still grandfathered for unlimited data at AT&T, too. So I'm staying put.

What a journey.
I had someone uhhh laugh asking "Is that a TREO!?" (pointing to my hip).
I said YEAH! very proudly. But did not go into my usual diatribe about acquiring it from a dear friend in the Netherlands. :)
I'll never be able to afford an iPhone WITH SERVICE.

I just got an iPhone 4 yesterday, paid for by the client for testing purposes. Otherwise I'd never have one either. I'm a $30 month-to-month guy.
I was about ready to chuck my Galaxy S (also a free loaner) for a nice old feature phone like my beloved but stolen Sony k790.

I hate AT&T's network, so I wanted to switch to Verizon (despite having 2 unlimited data lines), but after looking at the prices, I'll probably switch to Sprint instead.

I just clicked through the 4S purchase process on Sprint's site and found an unadvertised $10/mo "premium data" charge tacked on to the account at the end, despite the $69.99/mo unlimited-data advertising. Went over to VZW instead.

I'm looking at family plans, which are an extra $30/line ($20 base + $10 data) for unlimited data + text on Sprint vs. $40+/line ($10 base + $30 data + $0-20 text) for 2GB data/month on Verizon.

Man, that's a badly done article. There is no such thing as a Verizon iPhone 4S, guys--it's all just one model, with one set of button placements (unlike the 4).
I've seen enough other reports suggesting that the buttons appear to line up (at least with the Verizon iPhone 4) that I'm reserving judgment until there is more evidence.
In other news:
One million pre-orders on the first day. Not bad.

Has anyone tried to get iOS 5 onto a 3G (not S)?

Considering that the later releases of 4.x don't install on the 3G, I wouldn't hold your breath for 5.0.
One thing's for sure; it would be fast!

Well. That's unexpected.
My mother's phone, ordered at 8 a.m. through Apple's website last Friday, has shipped from China. Mine, ordered at 9:45 a.m. (after a snafu with the shipping address), has not. I'm visiting her in Vermont over the weekend, leaving Indy on Friday morning. At least I'll get to play with her new toy over the weekend.
