What's amazing is that this event's interest has melted down macworld, loop insight, some of ars technica... .
Jeff, seen enough to move on from your 3G?

Looks like Baha's "read my messages to me" want is going to be a reality...

I wonder if the multiple antennae and managed send/receive is going to get around the CDMA limitations on Verizon?

As I predicted, it's the voice features that tempt me, but I'll resist.

I want to be able to re-name "Siri" to "Skynet."

Or ask it "What is the formula for transparent aluminum?"

You can already ask it that. It just doesn't know the answer.

Underwhelming. But I'll still be preordering a 4S ASAP.

I've definitely seen enough, ddt, but then I was going to upgrade at this cycle no matter what, as my 3GS is getting cranky with old age. Put me down for 32 GB (which will let me carry around more music and occasional videos--I've found 16 GB tight). The only question is: Verizon or AT&T? (Sprint supposedly is pretty weak around here). El Jeffe, any insight?

I wonder what happened there.
Was it that Apple has hit a wall? Did they truly expect this kind of shit would be ok? Or did they hold back the iPhone 5 because of concerns about the economy (but you think it's bad this year? just wait until the eurozone goes tits up next spring…)? WTF?
The Kindle Fire was fairly obvious. Amazon is gearing up to produce all sorts of products these days (want an hdmi cable? it beats monoprice counting shipping). So no mention of an iPad 3 (granted its off cycle)? I'm not in the market for a 2, but if there was a 3 by the end of the year (please god, more memory), I'd bite. And no lower priced, smaller tablet? I might buy one of those too/instead.
I may get an Iphone 4s if I'm eligible. My current one is banged up pretty badly. To get the glass replaced will cost $200 so the new camera could be nice. But the speeds? I don't need em in the iPhone and voice recognition promises to be Newton or, at best, Wolfram Alpha all over again.
To beat the living crap out of people apple needs
1. Free iPhone 4s (not this model, but an iPhone 4 a la the current one with some positive changes, but maybe less of something too).
2. iPhone 5 whatever that may be
3. iPad 3 with more memory (i'll pay substantially more for an iPad with 128gb) and iPads Mini and Air. Both Mini and Air have a 7" screen. Air has 3G and at least 64gb. Costs tons. Mini has 8gb, wifi only and is $250 or maybe $350 with $100 free iTunes coupon. Loss leader be damned.
In this market, Apple will be testing the lower bounds of the 200 day moving average by the end of the month, if not earlier. Then it will be going down faster than Ginger Lynn in a scene with Peter North.

Max theoretical data rate of 14.4Mbit which they say is on-par with the stuff other guys are calling "4G" except the other 4G stuff is pushing 21Mbps and 42Mbps.
The impressive part of the announcement is the battery life. If it actually does what they claim, that would be a huge win.

-Swine Flu free since...cough, cough...
I have a email from one of case vendors I got last week showing off all their new iPhone 5 cases.
They said that would have them available this week.
Opps.

I think Apple leaked bogus dimensions on purpose to screw up the carrion eaters that swoop in with cases based on illegal info ahead of legitimate vendors after each form factor change.

Well, if anyone upgrades and has an iPhone 4 they don't know what to do with... I'm pinching pennies right now but am very tempted to swap out my 3G (no S), which is crashing and taking <"teen voice">forEVER</"teen voice"> to do the simplest things.

Didn't the 3G work well until it was crippled with an iOS upgrade?
Wonder when they'll gimp the iPhone 4...
