That. Wallet. Is. AWESOME!
(Sorry, johnny, your protos are cool, too, but... .)
Bill, does it carry gold and silver coin, in case Ron Paul wins?

More on topic, anyone have/know where I can find a good price on a 27" Cinema Display (refurb is fine)? They only have refurbed Thunderbolt displays in the Apple Store, and I need the Mini Displayport version.
Umm... why? What can the Mini Displayport version do that the Thunderbolt can't?

Work with my 2010 Macbook Pro.

Apple goes out of their way to avoid making it clear one way or the other but according to
the Apple Thunderbolt Display Wikipedia page:
Quote
Backwards compatibility is not supported by the Apple Thunderbolt Display. Consequently, old Macs with DisplayPort (i.e. without a Thunderbolt port) cannot connect to the Apple Thunderbolt Display.

That's dumb. Yet another reason to stay away from Apple monitors (says the owner of a 24" LED Cinema Display).

Right. I have a perfectly functional (if slightly dimmed) 20" Apple Cinema Display with an ADC connector; I just don't have anything it can connect to.

At least there are (were?) ADC-DVI adapters.
Jeff Cooper

True. I actually have one, and used it for roughly three years, until I turned in my DVI-equipped 2007 MacBook Pro this past summer. Doesn't help much now, though. I suppose I could try chaining a mini displayport to DVI adapter to the DVI to ADC adapter. Silly, though, that johnny k can't use a recent Macbook Pro with a current display.

Way of the world. Thunderbolt is a lower-level thing than Displayport, but at those margins, they could've built in backwards compatibility to ease the transition and sell more screens. Probably just to head off all the complaints from people who couldn't get the FW and USB ports to work when it's just plugged into a Displayport.
I have a lovely 'X-ray' Apple CRT that can't be used because it needs an ADC adapter to supply power.

It's the first Apple monitor I bought since the (13"?) one I got for my Mac II back in 1988.

It was a tongue in cheek comment James. I've once bought the 21" Apple color display when it came out, for something like 5K guilders back in the day and it came with that completely weird analog connector that never fit on anything else but the NuBus Apple cards (8•24 display card IIRC). Since then, and especially since Jobs returned, the connectors have become weirder and weirder although one can hope that Thunderbolt will get some traction.

The trick is the "good price" part, isn't it? New ones are still available from the usual online suspects, but the biggest discount is $30 (Amazon and MacMall), which isn't much from a $999 starting price. I'll keep my eyes open.

Thanks. I'm not asking for much - just the $850 refurb price that the Apple Store typically has. It's just not in stock there now.
Weird to invest in the non-Thunderbolt display, but since this laptop feels like it's going to last longer than the 5 years I had the iBook, why not?

Cool-looking hardware, and I'm sure you've kept it in great condition, but what are those paper things you slide into it? Do they have embedded digital media or something????
