Anyone have memory for the Quad G5 (DDR2 it looks like) lying around to be gotten rid of? I can get 4GB from Crucial for $70 but if you've been following my employment plight, you can guess that even that amount is non-trivial. If not, no big deal. Thanks!

Sorry. Sure that you don't want to borrow my Hackintosh?

Thanks John. That's still in the back of my mind.

The thing I'm running into right now is that the G5 is plenty powerful enough (for the current web dev and such) but memory is an issue. I only have 4.5 GB (only!) and tend to run about 8-20MB free, about 10GB of swap used. :-P

One of the primary culprits right now is TweetDeck (and its runtime, AIR). The app doesn't save its state well, so it is a pain to restart it, and it consumes the known universe in multiple dimensions as it runs. Kind of like Safari. Put them both together, and, well...

Yeah? And how many windows and browser tabs do you have open?

I have a defunct Power Mac due (power supply blew, then HD) -- I'll try to see what RAM's in it. It's just been a doorstop.

Yes, I am wondering if more ram will simply indulge this behaviour (wasn't it like 168 windows/tabs last time we asked?)

My current safari count is 14 windows, 70 tabs. I bookmarked LOTS of info for "later" use.

Anyone know a good source for used iPhones that doesn't expect the buyer to pay AT&T retail? This is for someone I know who needs to replace a lost one (no, not me). $300+ (sometimes ++) seems ridiculous to me for a used iPhone.

A 3G, 3GS?

Europe? I suppose eBay UK will have lots of unlocked iPhones.

porruka (Admin) – April 25, 2011 07:47AM Reply Quote
3gs... 32G preferred, but a range would be nice, and has to run on AT&T. The account is legit (not jailbroken or anything), just needing to replace the lost phone.

I haven't checked UK yet. Thanks for the idea tliet.

Do they use the same frequencies for GSM?

tliet – April 25, 2011 11:15AM Reply Quote
Yes, I believe so. I've been able to use my GSM phones in the US when I was there, so I don't see what that would be a problem.

The incompatibility is going to be the currency I'm afraid.

I've used my 3GS in the UK as well. No compatibility worries.

LOL, if it's free to a good home... :-D

Actually, I might know someone (that's not me). What do you want for it?
